Horn relay date question
« on: July 04, 2007, 07:07:47 PM »
The 862 and the 890 horn relays were both used during the 69 model year.
Does anyone know exactly when the changeover happened?  ???

What were the differences?  Is the p/n on the relay somewhere - if it is I've just never noticed it?  Was the 862 used early in the production year or the 890?

862 was used for model year 68, and early production 69
890 was used after that for 69 and model year 1970.

Really not much difference between the 862 and 890.
Usually the 862's are "white" plastic, but I have seen many 862's with the black plastic too.
They both have the key warning function

The 890's are always black plastic....
the part number is stamped on the mounting bracket for these 2 particular relays.

OK, I know this is an old thread, but it will make sense :)

Going through some 862 and 890 horn relays (cleaning and testing) and I found a letter code.  On the topside of the plastic housing, I have a G, C, E & F.  They look like months to me. I have one more I need to check

Since these were kinda made in calendar years, it would make sense. C=March, E=May, F=June and G=July.  Anyone else see those?

just a thought; could these be the plastic mold cavity identifications<?> and not related to calendar.
Good eye, just looked at a few on hand, 862 D & F

If it's in the plastic, then it's for mold tracking.
