New 69 Z28

Congrats on a VERY nice Garnet Red Z28... not much appears to be incorrect under the hood, master cylinder and headers are about the only parts I see... does it have side post or top post battery cables?

Thanks James. We put plenty of miles on it this weekend. It does have a side post battery and cables. That is on my list of things to fix this winter. Its been about a 80/20 split of wins and surprises. I didn't get into verifying every item on the car before I bought it. When I verified the block, transmission and rearend to the PoP I was going after it. It does have the original date correct starter, alternator, water pump which would be the things I would expect to fail and be replaced in 50 years. I thought I had a win with the spare tire. I do have 5 matching YH date correct rims and they all match to the exact day. The spare tire I thought was original and is a Goodyear Polyglas which I don't think is very common. When I did more research on the tire date code it turned out to be week 48 1971.

What are your plans to 'fix' that???   May '69 is approximately when they switched from top terminal to side terminal batteries/cables.  Your car is a May car?  Do you know the exact date of mfg?  With the VIN you can tell within a day or two.   The battery may be a later battery, but does your car have the original side post cables?   (Those are very difficult to find apparently as I've had several offers for the original ones from my car- not taken of course!)..

I will check the cables tonight and get a pic. I had originally thought all of 69 was top post and 70 went to side so with that when I saw the side post I didn't bother to look at cables. My fix for original parts on my previous cars and this one is usually Charlotte Auto Fair, Ebay and Atlanta swap meet + some local ones. Usually can find a lot of good original stuff. For now its Ebay and my garage hoarding until the swap meets open back up.

Those are original GM side post cables (The reproductions do not have the Delco EYE on them as yours do).   I could refer the folks who inquired about buying mine to you if you want to remove them and install a top post battery..   (but in my estimation, you'd be foolish to do so)...        Let me know 

Your VIN was most likely built on 15 May 1969.

Those are the original cables.. and very valuable, the reproductions do not have the DELCO EYE on the cable end. They have a PLUS or MINUS.
It even has the ORIGNAL POSITIVE BATTERY BOLT... the dished face along with the 7/16" hex.
The negative bolt has been changed because the original bolt has a 7/16" hex with 5/16" threads - they discontinued this in favor of the 3/8" threads on both pos and neg within a year.

FWIW the M20 3.73 combo is a great combo for the car, it is a better effective first gear (9.3996) than a M21 with a 4.10.  (9.02)
A M21 with a 3.73 (8.206) will feel like you are dragging an anchor compared to the M20.

All 5 YH wheels are January 10 1969. All have the original paint.
