Quality Brake restoration
« on: May 15, 2020, 10:15:26 PM »
I'm looking to send out my '69 brake calipers and master cylinder for rebuild, any recommendations on a quality shop would be appreciated since it's been awhile since I've needed had any done. Thanks in advance!

I typically rebuild my own single piston calipers and send the MC's to whitepost and have them stainless sleeved.

Agreed...  '69 single piston brake calipers are easy to rebuild (and cheap if you do it yourself).  Whitepost does a great job on rebuilding (resleeving) the MC...

I used whitepost for resleeve on my MC and was happy.  Only comment - I opted for black finish and they painted the cover and bale which I did not expect/didn’t like.  If I’d had know I would have told them to leave them as is.

Master cylinder and proportioning valve both came back inoperable.  Parts were originals out of my COPO that was finishing up to go to MCACN.  I stuck the bad parts in storage and used some that I had on the shelf to get the car finished.  Replacements worked great.  Sent the originals out to a different restorer.

Did the older gentleman 'manager or ?' (Billy?) at whitepost retire?   I think he was parttime when I last used his services around 2012 or so?

Sometimes people who were at a business a long time retire and the replacement can be sorely lacking?, although I have no idea what the situation is now at Whitepost....

I believe that Billy died (RIP).  He was a great guy and always did a professional job IMO.

Thanks Bergy!   I'm very sorry that Billy passed away, but I was afraid that had happened after hearing your recent experience with Whitepost.  I never knew Billy's last name, nor did I ever meet him, just conversations on the phone when I sent MC to be restored/sleeved.

Hopefully your recent experience with Whitepost was an anomaly rather than an indication that Whitepost has also suffered from the situation of losing experienced people that happens to many many businesses!

I just sent a master out to White Post.  I tried to be courteous and send them/him the tracking info when it shipped and I have yet to hear anything back but they have already pulled payment on my card so we will see how the end results fair..
