Cowl vin 1 number off 1967 RS SS Camaro

Adding factory AC to a 1967 and having it be correct looking is a huge task. Trim tags are easy to replace, but this one looks good and numbers align. The fact it looks so correct and is not on the tag gives me great pause.
For AC, the firewall had to be replaced or hacked up under the suitcase. This is also in the area of the hidden VINs so if replaced there would be no VIN or wrong VIN. The dash also had to be replaced with an AC dash or have the round vents and center vents cut into it. No easy way to install those round vents in the curved sheet metal, so if cut in, it will look like it.

Were you able to see both hidden VINs? The top of the firewall where the hidden VIN is also has AC components near there.

Any pictures of the hidden VIN?

MT code block also missing its K19/K24 AIR system. Likely stripped off once it left California.  Maybe another bartering point, if purchasing.

any ideas on current value on a rs/ss 350 4 speed numbers car.. He wants 44k and that seems high and maybe even more so in the current times?

The auction ended at $34k and that's about what I would expect it to be worth. Maybe a little more, but if it were me, I would have to have it professionally inspected first.

That AC looks very much like a factory installation to me...I Do see it not on trim tag...something is not adding up.
I definitely agree with 68 Ragtop.

Removing center dash cover to look at the cutout, and maybe the side round vents would be one easy check. Similar to checking a RS by pulling rear backup lights.  Then again, I guess the dash panel could have been replaced with a donor?

68’s would not be on the trim tag.....this is a 67 and 67’s trim tag from fisher body is showing what body panels and cut outs are needed for body assembly.....the dash parts are easy to change...the cowl is a lot more of an effort to change....and most of the time you don’t see the cut out with plate on the upper cowl done as correct as this car looks...that’s why I think this car had factory installed air...I wonder why someone would go to the trouble to do a correct looking AC set up (with the knowledge to do it) on a car that didn’t have it ....I would think that if you had that much of an understanding on what is correct....you would know trim tag should show it.

Harder to imagine that error on the trim tag positions 1-5 than a POP, since that's what they used for the Fisher Body build.  I have an earlier 67 11B LOS and it has the C60 code.

Yeah, I hadn’t thought about it but I think you’re right that it would seem easier for a pop to have a mistake than the trim tag
