1100837 alternator rebuild
« on: March 02, 2020, 10:07:12 PM »
In preparing to rebuild my 37A 1100837 alternator out of my May 1969 Z/28 I find that the rotor hex drive is rounded out. Any suggestions as to finding a replacement? Thanks, Scott

Shop your various sources for a similar 37amp rated but UNDESIRABLE part number or date for cheap based on condition and just swap it out. (10DN Model like in kind)

Are you DIY the rebuild or farming it out?

I'll be doing the work myself as I've done 10DN and 10SI alternators before. Just for grins I tried an old 10SI rotor and found it to be almost identical dimensions to the 10DN rotor. Only difference I see is the 10SI rotor is maybe .015 inches longer than the 10DN. What I don't know is the wire turns difference between the two. I've also found my traditional alternator rebuild kit supplier "s-and-d-repair" (on EBay) to be able to supply me a new rotor. Scott

Where I live, there is a recycling center. There is a bin there for alternators. I stop in and scour the bin sporadically for 10DNs, for just such a need. I probably have what you need. Send enough for ship and it’s yours. PM for details please.

Hi Scott,  If you still have your alternator apart and want to get really detailed, here is a before and after of my diodes, I wanted to match the fonts and look as close as possible to the original one. So through trial and error I think I got it pretty close. The fonts are different within the numbers and letters on the original and spacing is important and getting a stamp would probably need to be custom made. What I found involves decal paper, an ink jet printer, and super glue. Might be over kill but I figured while I have it a part, why not.

Regards,
Jerry K.
