This 1969 Camaro RS/SS 350 Z11 convertible was one of the pace cars that paced the various class races held during the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National event known as the Governor's Cup held at Marlboro Raceway in Upper Marlboro, Maryland on April 12-13, 1969.

This is the earliest I have found that a 1969 Camaro Z11 was used as an actual pace car for a major automotive event.  Notice how the Indianapolis 500 graphics have been removed or never applied to the door.  Instead, Command Chevrolet is prominently displayed.  The words on the rear quarter panel say, "The Governor's Cup Marlboro Raceway April 12 13 '69"  Next to that it appears that there is a Quaker State Motor Oil decal.  The front fender promotes the upcoming Indy 500.  Beyond that it states, "the stopwatcher sports car news....."  This was the name of a regional SCCA newsletter.

This photo was taken by Bill Dobbins and was posted elsewhere on this website by Jon Mello.

While not a Camaro, this 1969 Firebird Trans Am was also used as a pace car during the Governor's Cup.  I'm not sure if the Camaro or the Trans Am was a backup car or if they alternated using them since there were so many different races during the weekend.  This car also sports the Quaker State Motor Oil decal.  They must have been an event or track sponsor.

This photo was also taken by Bill Dobbins.  I found it on the Laprecord Facebook page.
