A 1969 Camaro RS/SS Z11 convertible was used as the pace car for some of the events held during the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) June Sprints weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, 1969.  The June Sprints are amateur sports car races that have been held yearly at Road America since 1956 on the third or fourth weekend of June.  They are presented by the Chicago Region of the SCCA.

This great color picture shows the Camaro in front of the "A" Production field as they head into turn five.  According to the metadata it was taken on Saturday, June 14, 1969.  It's too hard to tell from the photo if the Camaro was an SS350 or SS396 but it does show that the Indy 500 door decal was either taken off the car or never installed.  The red and white Corvette on the front row driven by Tony DeLorenzo would win the race.  Notice the lone AMX a few rows back in a sea of Corvettes and Cobras.

The Camaro was not the only pace car used for the multitude of events held during the June Sprints.  According to a few photos an extremely rare 1969 GTO Judge convertible was used to pace at least two of the other events.  I believe they only made 108 GTO Judge convertibles in 1969.

The first photo shows the GTO parked in front of the field of "F" Production race cars prior to the start of the event.  I found this photo years ago and I am not sure where it is from.  I searched for it recently but could not find it.

The second photo just shows the back of the GTO as it leads the field of Sports Racers as they head up the hill towards turn 6.  It came from the Remembrances of Elkhart Lake Road America Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/147537615666486/photos/
