67 SS Wheel Cover P01BA
« on: December 06, 2019, 06:46:24 PM »

I have an original, unrestored 1967 L35 RS/SS with 19,450 miles on the clock. When dad purchased the car new, it was wearing SS wheel covers. When I began showing the car in the early 90's, I was told by several authoritative sources that the "68" wheel covers were not correct for the car. Fast forward to last week when I was flipping through my taped-up, dog-eared Assembly Instruction Manual and was surprised that for over two decades I had largely over looked page 11, Miscellaneous Shipping List. The second part listed on the page is RPO P01, COVER UNIT - WHL TRIM and the eleventh part listed is RPO P01, COVER UNIT - WHL TRIM. Part number 3893121 vs. part number 3871173.  If you look at the DIVISION RECORD in the lower right corner of the page, 3871173 was added on 5-1-67, very late in the model year. ( My car is an 06C car) Looking back at the 11th item, the AIM states that 3871173 was specific to MODELS  RPO L48, L34, L35 & L78. All are, of course, SS cars.
Further snooping by Kurt verified that P01BA was in fact introduced in April of 1967.
If anyone knows of any other late 67 SS cars wearing SS wheel covers or has circa 67 photographs of SS Camaros with these P01's, I would very much appreciate a response.
Thanks,
Brett

Brett, I moved your thread from the orphans section to general, but have you read THIS?

Brett,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I corrected the http://www.camaros.org/options.shtml#wcovers info.

The standard P01 cover was used for all cars until the beginning of April 67. At that point, SS cars got at different P01 ECL.
Note that the every other concentric ring in the SS cover is black, though that can be hard to see in the picture. http://www.camaros.org/images/pages/options/wheel_68SS.jpg

Ed, that's cause I just changed it last night.

Thanks Kurt. Looks good. I'll try to post in the right place from now on. :)
Got some stuff I want to share on 67 Owners' manuals.

My '67  mountain green RS/SS was bought new locally by someone I know. It was delivered with the PO1 hubcap. A picture of it was used on the opening page several years ago with the hubcaps. I was told the picture was taken about 3 weeks after delivery. I have found bother black ringed PO1 and silver ringed '63 SS hubcaps at flea markets.

Yes, but says it is too large and I am not smart enough to shrink it.
