Personally, I love the look of the X77 chrome-less quarter depressions so I would have made the same decision as well.

Thanks guys for all of the input both pro and con. Guess I’ll see how my decision goes when I start taking it out this spring and summer. Can’t wait to see the reaction from friends and relatives who last saw it as an X33 car and now will see it as a “Plain Jane” basic Z/28.  As someone posted in an earlier thread, it is my car and this is the way I want it to look.

Did your X66 have the quarter gills ? I don't want to tip the can over again (I've mentioned before), but I can't find where there were ever any holes drilled in my quarters, both appear original to the car. Pre-X code L78, original VIN'd block. The quandary is here, too - if all SS's had gills, then should I install them on restoring this one ?

Are you saying the ORIGINAL DATED QUARTER PANELS are still installed on your car and there are no quarter trim holes?

Doing them back to how they were original is always a good thing. I'm doing my X66 car back to how it left the factory which meant filling in several holes from style trim, rally sport, power windows, ducted hood, spoilers, & rear antenna. Think twice before you drill a hole. I learned the hard, expensive way...Joe

The dates for the quarter panels is in the trunk gutter H24 or H15 something like that.

Addional question. Will be painting the X77 no D80 2A NOR car soon. When I bought it 5 years one of the previous owners put the Z21 trim on. Removed that. It also has the front & rear spoilers. Don’t know if it originally came with spoilers, but I do want to keep them. Read section on CRG re:spoilers. To keep this as original as I can, should I paint the rear stripes all the way to the back of the trunk lid then install the spoiler so the stripes show on the lip or just assume it came from factory with spoilers and just paint it that way so the stripes don’t show on the rear of the trunk.

If one of the trunk lid torsion bars is thicker [.280"] than the other [.240"] it was built with D80. There will also be a small hole in the front crossmember tab for the center mounting bracket.

If they are both .240" it was not built with D80. When unlocked, the lid will hardly move with an added spoiler.

Most people who add a rear spoiler don't more the emblem forward so you could look for that also. You should determine if it was there when it left the factory. If not & you want to leave it you could paint it as a dealer installed spoiler where the stripes were on the back. If it wasn't factory, you might even think about painting another lid at the same time just in case you change your mind again
