A little more than a month after it was used to pace the USAC Rex Mays 300 Indycar event, the white 1969 Camaro RS/SS 396 convertible was used as the pace car for the Permatex 200 NASCAR race held at the Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California on Saturday, January 18, 1969. This event was a support race for the main NASCAR Grand National event that was scheduled to take place the next day. It featured lesser known drivers in early model stock cars that were no longer competitive in Grand National races. In fact, Hershel McGriff won the race in his twelve year old 1957 Chevrolet. I believe it says "Camaro Official Pace Car" on the doors.
