Le Circuit Mont Tremblant: 1968 Camaro Parade & Pace Cars for Trans Am

Multiple 1968 Camaros were used in official capacities during Les Trois Heures du Circuit Trans Am held at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in St. Jovite, Quebec, Canada on Sunday, July 21, 1968.  Prior to the race the drivers were introduced to the crowd and chauffeured around the track in 1968 Camaro convertibles.  This parade of drivers in Camaro convertibles was led around the track by a 1968 Camaro Z28.  This car appears to be a darker color.  It had white stripes and the Rally Sport option.

The Camaro convertibles might be the same cars that were used in the same capacity at this track prior to the United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC) event on Sunday, June 2, 1968.

All different kinds of 1968 Camaro convertibles were used in the driver parade.  The closeup of the first Camaro in this picture shows that a sign on the door of Camaro states that the cars were "Curtesy (SP?) Roger Penske's Racing Team"

The first picture shows AMC Javelin driver George Follmer sitting in the back of one of the Camaro convertibles.  He would come in second place.  It looks like Mustang drivers Jerry Titus and Horst Kwech are in the following Camaro.  Notice the hat on the driver of the Camaro has the "Chevrolet Sports Department" logo on it.  Click on the link and use the magnification tools: https://library.revsinstitute.org/digital/custom/single-image?id=233405&collection=p17257coll1

The third picture shows a color version of the logo on both of the Camaro drivers hats.  It came from Ebay.

A 1968 Camaro RS/SS convertible was also used as the pace car for this SCCA Trans Am event.  This car looks to be painted a dark blue color with a white SS stripe.  I'm not sure if it has Rally Wheels with the center cap taken off or if it has aftermarket wheels.

While watching my DVD entitled, "The History of the Trans Am Series: 1966-1995 I noticed a tiny snippet of footage that shows Mark Donohue driving his 1968 Penske-Hilton Camaro Z28 into the pit lane after winning the event.  This footage shows the 1968 Camaro SS/RS convertible that was used by the track to pace the Trans Am race and the other supporting races held during the same weekend.

These pictures show the same 1968 Camaro SS/RS convertible pace car sitting on pit lane. The Cobra is on the grid because it was taken during one of the support races for production cars that took place during the Trans Am weekend.

In this picture you can barely see the Camaro pace car behind the guard rail wall in pit lane as the Formula cars take off at the start of the race. The Camaro is sitting in pit lane because these types of cars began their races with a standing start and did not use the pace car. This was also one of the support races that took place during the Trans Am weekend at St. Jovite.
