69 Brake Booster Pins
« on: June 10, 2019, 04:52:21 AM »
I bought a reproduction power disc brake booster for my 69 Camaro. It came with 2 booster to master cylinder piston pins. One short and one long. The reproduction 309 master cylinder came with a spud, stub or extension (whatever it's called) in the piston hole. The short pin and the stub measures the same length as the long pin without the stub. Why would this booster kit come with a long pin and a short pin? Which should I use, long pin without spud or short pin with the spud? Please look at attached picture.

I don't know why picture is so large. I re-sized it to 200 KB.

Use the long one that way you wont need the short or the extension piece.

Recess in the piston (where the rod contacts the master cylinder) is different in depth between the '68 and '69 master cylinders - the WT master has a different (piston) hole depth than the US cylinder. More than a few guys have found out the hard way when replacing masters and boosters -

If you are using a rebuilt master cylinder, you can bet the piston is a '69 - up version, which should use a shorter rod. The early kits are getting pretty tough to find with the proper piston for the application(s) that use the longer rods -
