Is this a known car?
« on: May 26, 2019, 02:46:25 AM »
I saw this car on eBay and was curious if it is a known car.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/123773946331?ul_noapp=true

I forwarded the pics of the stamps to Gary, maybe he can post them.

Austin,

you sent me 'screen shots' which ranged in size from 3 to 5 Megabytes each!   To get these to a postable size, I had to clip out the critical stamping part of the 'screen capture, and then run the image files thru 'Light Image Resizer' several times to get the images to size...

The images were not very good to begin with, despite their large file size, and of course they are no better now.

My comments to Austin's email were as follows:
"Looks like a nice car, and the BIN price isn't bad either IMO…

The engine stamp itself looks OK to me, but the engine stamping photo is not high resolution enough to see broach marks; I'm imagining that I see 'other' horizontal' machine marks instead (but it might be my imagination from that low resolution photo??)..   Without seeing original broach marks, I'd never declare an engine stamp to be original.

I didn't see any problems with the trans stampings or the axle stamp, although that axle sure showed some deep pits from rust.. Might be normal for Canada though?"

So Gary are the pics on the Yenko thread clear enough for you? I can't see broach marks , but maybe you can.

I think the image on the Yenko site were the same (or very similar) images of the stampings...

If they aren't there, no one can see them, Austin...   only people with great imaginations..  :)

PS.  That doesn't necessarily mean it's a restamp, because when a block gets decked, the broach marks are GONE....  even if the original stamps are still legible.

I agree with you on that. Sorry I provided the best images I could. I assume he took one set of shots and sent them to both me and the guy that posted them on the Yenko site.

I'm not sure how/why you are generating screen shots?  OR is that what you were sent?   But an image captured from a 'screen' not only has the degradations/defects/characteristics of the original camera and conditions, but also 'screen effects'.  All of these detract from the basic information in the original image.

They were sent through eBay messenger, so add another layer of degradation.

I doubt being sent by 'ebay messenger' degrades the image quality.  The file sizes were very large but the inherent image resolution was poor - probably mostly due to the camera that took the images!

I have seen eBay resize the image, and it degrades the clarity.

Didn't meet reserve, makes me wonder what else the pics may not have shown.
