When the Z/28 market gets ridiculous, just go buy a nice SS...
« on: January 31, 2018, 06:11:15 PM »
Always on the hunt, and keeping tabs on the market. With the recent craziness from the results of the recent Barret Jackson auction, I thought there are many good cars out there still.

I ran across this one the other night:

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/cto/d/1969-camaro-ss-all-origspd/6470875208.html

Appears to be a very straight forward SS-350 car, with a 4 speed, and P-O-P. Seller says original ZL-2 hood, which if ordered with the car is kinda rare. Great color combo, with the correct sport stripes. Has a decent amount of patina for me to like it.

Just in case anyone is looking for a nice car, this one looked like a solid car that IMO is priced right.  8)

I wish he would paint the grill surround, it just bugs me. I'm interested to learn if this group thinks this is priced well, any strong opinions?

True. I think in general the SS market is undervalued, especially the small block SS. Seems like the COPO, Yenko, special dealer cars (ex Baldwin, Nickey), Pace cars get much of the hype. And some of it is deserved, for the mere reason they didn't make a lot of them. But 20,302 is a lot of Z cars, so still surprises me with some of the sale prices.
I have no idea if this is a numbers matching car, but at face value, and with the engine compartment looking mostly correct with the right patina, it looked like a car to pursue further and see how complete and original it is, for the sales price.

I know 20,302 seems like a lot of cars, but back when they were new, you didn't see Z's too frequently. Yes, they were around, but there seemed to see a lot more SS's, and especially the SS Chevelles. They seemed to be everywhere. At least those are my 50 year memories.

Nice colors, great options.  That's about as good as an SS 350 gets.   For me,  I don't think the price is too out of line as long as it's a real SS.  Hopefully a Norwood car with an X code tag, that would make things much easier and less worry about what you're getting.   I've seen wanna-be Camaros for as much or more.   Worth checking on if you're on the market for one.

If it's really in Arizona I'd expect to see it at the Pavilions.  But I've never seen it around.

I agree, I've always had an appreciation for the SS 350 cars.  Just not seldom seen.

Yeah a lot of Z cars produced, but the prices they are grabbing doesn't surprise me too much.  They are sort of special little cars, and the only car that engine came in.  3 years and it was gone.  Not the fastest thing on the road but definitely a ball to drive.  It's become my favorite of the lot, when my wife lets me drive it that is, lol.

Without clear pics of the drivetrain stamps and clear pics of the docs - it’s a “pig in a poke”.

The car may be 100 percent as described, or maybe not.
