Cross Ram 1968 RS Z28 at Mecum

Does anyone know about the Tripoli Turquoise 1968 RS Z28 that sold at Mecum - Pre-production or experimental Cross - ram and original Goodyear tires.  Sold for $90 k, surprised with those rare options that it didn't go higher.

Nice car, I'm curious as to the location of the battery hold down? Is that factory or a day 2 relocation?

Read the ad carefully. "Matching numbers" these days only means correct components. The entire drivetrain may not be original. No factory paperwork, no Camaro High-Performance certification. Is it really a Z/28?

The cross-ram was never an option.

Sold at Mecum Indy 2013 for $100k +10%. If that buyer just sold it, they had over $110,000 in it and cashed out for just over $80,000. Remember that when you see "will only increase in value" in an ad.

Yeah, definitions are getting really blurry these days.  "Numbers matching" means that the numbers match to something, but maybe not anything.  "Born with Drivetrain" means it is a drivetrain that was born with something, but maybe not the car in question, "Real Deal" means the seller likes to play poker.  You get the point.  Phrases mean nothing anymore.  Especially with cars that have been traded like kids used to trade baseball cards.  Unless the car has been researched by a respected authority (Macneish?) AND you consult with that authority before the purchase or you are buying from an original owner with lots of docs (photo archive is nice from before these cars were all about the money) then caveat emptor.

Maybe every car that sells, should just be listed as 1968 Camaro, or 1967 Camaro, and then let the buyers figure out what it is worth. No pre- estimates.
No SS, Z/28, COPO, Yenko, no extra description, just "1968 Camaro" period.  Make the buyers research, or seek the opinion of an expert, instead of the auctioneer, or the seller for insight on the car.
I know this is just the opposite of all the labels thrown out there, but I think it would cut down the misrepresentation , and over bidding.

I remember back in the day where you could call about a car like a 66 Chevelle, and then get there and it was a SS-396, or call about a 65 Mustang, and when you got there it was a 65 fastback. oh the good old days, of little info , and "come and take a look at it and see what you think"

I wish they would do this on eBay!.  Every part it seems no matter how mundane is now COPO, Yenko, ZL1, Z28 and so on.
