67 RS door limit switch pads

 Has anyone ever seen these rubber sponge-like pads on a 67 R/S headlight door limit switch? These pads were on the two radiator mounted switches only and are so old they never bounce back when compressed so I replaced these with black rubber insulation but when looking at my 67 04B LOS survivor I don't see any signs of ever being on the switches. The NOR car is a 05B and the glue was rock hard and difficult to get off and the pads were in the car when I bought it in 1980. They look to prevent the door from having any possibility of rattle when open. The original pad (shown off the switch) looks die cut. Maybe a later 67 model run addition?

I checked mine and no foam or glue residue. Low mile car indoor stored.

I have a pair these in there " as found" state that had their original paint. I have cleaned them off and sanded a little in that area, but I do not recall any residue of an adhesive in this area and they certainly did not have foam or rubber.

I stumbled across this picture on camaros.net while looking for what a headlight bucket shim looks like (I need one). Check out the bumper on the switch. It's larger than the one I have but it still has one.

Then both open and close switches would need the foam. And it better be soft otherwise the motor will stall if it cannot compress the foam to depress the switch.

  It is soft but on the bucket mounted switches, the design of the door hinge is such that you would need a rubber pad about 3/4" thick to contact any flat surface on the door side. The radiator support side of the door has a raised round disc in its shape that contacts the switch button so I can see where a thin "~1/4" pad would be enough.
  I did contact the owner of that picture and he also sent me a picture of the bucket side switch and it looks like that pad was never in contact with a door. I can see that being the way the door is shaped. The trim tag date on his car is 01B NOR and mine is 05B NOR. Interesting enough my bucket sides don't have the rubber pads and his does. The switch brackets are different shapes between the bucket and FW sides. I wonder if this was an early design and later phased out, especially the bucket side where the rubber pad had no obvious contact when the door was closed. I'm guessing mine was some of the last remaining switch bodies that still had the pad before being totally used up.

I've seen a few of these and have a couple. The pads were a nice idea but didn't work in the field and there was a TSB to remove them if there were problems with the doors closing properly. Part of this TSB was to also slot the holes in the switches for adjustment. I've found that it is really hard to get the switches to work properly without following the procedures in the TSB. If anyone is interested I'll post the TSB. I'm not sure if these were deleted at some point in production. Quite possibly. Can't remember the specifics of the TSB without looking it up.
