Yenko Turbo Z/28?

Anyone know anything about the 1981 Yenko Turbo z28? There is one one eBay:

Thanks Phillip, I wonder if that was the same turbo used on the Trans Am.  No supercar by any means I'm sure. Take this to a car show, and I am certain you would be the only one there. And no clones!  :-)

Some of the paperwork in the ad says it has a Ray Jay Turbo then other paperwork says it is a TI Turbo which I believe that is what they used. TI is Turbo International
On a side note 1981 was about the end of Yenko Chevrolet. It then became Sun Chevrolet.

All that paperwork/documentation and nothing on final HP rating?   Nothing on the Yenko link either.   BAse 350 was 175 HP...but what did the turbo add?

Not much more that 200 hp.  Back in '81 I was looking for something new & fast  , but nothing.  Vettes, and the real lame Firebird Turbo Trans Am just didn't do it...

Off to Yenko Chevrolet and drove a white Stage 2 two, probably the one that's for sale.  I wasn't impressed...definately not worth the extra cash.....a little faster than the Pontiac Turbo Trans.

Now I'm kicking my tush.

I ended-up with a new Z28 with the 350 / auto.  The four speed only came with a 305...go figure.

They really don't tell what the turbo added... 175 bhp was the rating for V-8 350 4.00 x 3.48 (bore x stroke) 1981 Z28.  What would make the Yenko vauable now is rarity, not horsepower.

But come on, guys!  We're talking the 80s...  There was no such thing as a muscle car --as we know it.  If you wanted a sports car, it came from Japan or Germany --except for a vette (and the improvement for that year was 100 lbs less weight thanks to more plastic and thinner glass).  One of the "performace cars" that Chevy touted that year was the X-11 Citation.  You heard me right, the Citation!  It had what was described as "a potent 2.8 liter V-6 with 135 horsepower".  They offered a 660 Turbo option for it.  As of last year, it would be a "classic".

Yenko was also working on a X-11 Citation project. Yenko Sports Car Inc was doing some race development on it and in some of the pictures there is this long hair guy with glasess working on the engine. It was Bill Grumpy Jenkins.
A writer for one of the mags was there and took some pictures and years later did an article on it.

I just procured all the 1981 Turbo Z Camaro program paperwork.A bunch of pre production docs and parts manufacturer purchase paperwork.Repair orders etc.

Old but interesting topic.  Friend of mine who had a 69 Yenko at the time also had one of these 81 Yenko turbo Z's.  A red one if I remember correctly.  He sold it back in the late 80's early 90's for not all that much money.  I still think today they haven't caught on as much as I thought they might.  Very seldom do they ever come up in any conversation.
