1968 AIM revision question

In the 1968 factory AIM on the RPO Options Index sheet (A1) it shows a note about RPO D88 being removed on 2 28 1968. RPO D88 was apparently  Z-28 striping. This raises the question-was it possible to order optional striping on other Camaros?

D88 was the multi-color (rainbow) striping (see below, and in the 1968 AIM under UPC D88, Sheet A1), but we don't know if it was available on the Z28 because there's not enough data to make that determination. And yes, there were other striping options available on other cars. More info HERE.

For the longest time we didn't know if this option EVER made it out the door. Then this car showed up (the one below). HOWEVER, it's never been proven (with documentation) that this car originally had the D88 striping, so it may have been added at some point in its life. Until real documentation shows up, it's still up in the air!

Certainly different - a 'rainbow' stripe of sorts...  Our new minted and Pride Parade attending prime minister here in Canada would surely love one I'm sure!

Thank you for clarifying this. Camaros seem to be an eternal search for more interesting discoveries. Glad we have archaeologists like you digging up and sharing this history!

I never saw this one before Ed. Good one! It does seem from what I can see the front bezel seems to have the thick base or what was originally used on the rear and not the correct thin type used up front. No biggie, just little things that might indicate changes were made. That paint scheme reminds me of drag cars painted with the yellow, orange and red stripes during the 80's.

Too many discrepancies of what is considered to be factory correct to believe it's authenticity, imo. Very cool car though, none the less !
