New to CRG with a question
« on: June 13, 2016, 11:01:23 PM »
I'm new here and was just looking through the Orphan section. Is there a place on the site where someone can post a VIN where they are looking for an orphaned motor originally separated from a car? Such as an posting with Original VXXXXDZ Wanted?

Thanks

No we don't allow cars to look for missing engines by posting the car VIN.

The Orphans section is for engines, transmissions and paperwork separated from the car.  The hope is to reunite those with the car.

You can do a search in that section using your partial VIN like 9Nxxxxxx or 9Lxxxxxx where the x's are changed to match your car.  Good luck.

And even though the chances are slim, do a search of your VIN and partial VIN on Google once in a while.  eBay too.  Very simple to set up an automated search and receive an email with a match. Can't hurt and you wouldn't want to find out someday that you missed a chance. I do that regularly in case any docs show up somewhere.

Thanks. Been doing that for a while and have scoured the orphan pages more than a few times. Will keep it up in hopes of finding the original 9N641XXX block or a real clean date matched block from late April to Early May. I have a lot of original paper on this car already and just need to find the right DZ block for it's early May build date.

Great resource site.

Beware of unscrupulous "vendors" out there who will offer to stamp a block just for you, or possibly have the "exact" engine you need after figuring out your VIN.... Sorry, but it happens.

Yep! That's him. Sorry to have to admit, a fellow hoosier at that. Welcome to the site, there is a wealth of information here, and a dose of sarcasm thrown in now and then!

I have been to that guys place (I am one of the few to get a refund), and the sad thing is, that guy may have (had)a couple original DZ blocks, but he either has surfaced the deck of them for a customer to make what they need, or his shady past ruined any chance of someone being able to trust it to be the real thing.

Me, too!! I'm going to be in Angola this Sunday. Maybe I could take this guy out behind the woodshed for a couple minutes? What part of the state are you in, Dale?

I'm about 20 min ENE of Greensburg. I need to get to Brownstown with my car to see a guy I used to work with sometime. I'll have to get a hold of you before hand and maybe we can meet up.
