wire harness wrap
«

I have some of my plastic wrap off my harness near the starter, probably from headers. It looks like some kind of cloth wrap was wrapped right at the starter that is still there. Has anyone seen this and was it used at the end to keep the vinyl from unwrapping? If not, what was used to keep it from unwrapping?

Bill,
The plastic harness wrap is *tied off* at both ends to keep it wrapped... perhaps that 'cloth' you are seeing is a type of heat insulator where that starter harness comes near the exhaust? I'm in a bit of a hurry, or I would go check out the AIM for that area.. if the factory installed it, then it should be shown there??

I saw a place that looked like it was in a knot. Didn't look quite right but I better leave it ! I will check the aim and see if it shows anything

I got a chance to work on this more and there is a tan wrap at the end harness that looks like woven cloth that's an inch wide. Lectric limited has some fiberglass wrap that might be similar. Anyone have an idea how long an area this was used to the starter? I didn't see anything in the aim.

I work in the Motor rewind (NAVY) industry. That tape looks like. Cambric Tape
Yellow, varnish coated cotton cloth 2510: no adhesive; 2520: adhesive
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/EMDCI/Home/Products/ProductCatalog/~/Scotch-Varnished-Cambric-Tape-2520?N=5433135+3294318592&rt=rud
When working on a 67/68 rear harness I use the tapes offered by the Vette suppliers, they have a 3/4" dark cotton tape w/o adhesive that works perfectly.
Summit even offers it at a affordable price.

I will look into that thank you. I did some reading (team camaro ) this afternoon and it said one of the wires going to the starter was wrapped. I need to look again but as much as was on mine, I thought it might be more than just one wire.

I looked up what lectric limited had. Fiberglass high heat tape for $49 a roll!! It was black too.
I will do some more looking. Thanks for the summit info.
