69 350 SS EXHAUST BRACKET
« on: October 31, 2006, 09:35:55 PM »
GOOD AFTERNOON
MY QUESTION CONCERNS A 69, 350SS AUTO BUILD DATE FEB. 69. DO ALL 69 SS 350'S HAVE AN EXHAUST BRACKET WELDED ON DRIVERS SIDE AND OR PASSENGERS SIDE ? MY CAR HAS FACTORY THREADED HOLES ON BOTH SIDES, IN FACT THEY APPEAR TO HAVE A THREADED INSERT IN ALL FOUR HOLES.  THERE IS NO WELDED BRACKET ON EITHER SIDE NOR IS THERE SIGNS THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A BRACKET WELDED ON . I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 1971. PLEASE ADVISE

All 1969 dual exhaust coupes received the reinforcement plate on the LH frame rail only. Convertibles did not need it due to heavier gauge frame rails.

What it means is that the car didn't leave the plant with dual exhausts; if it has threaded inserts on both sides for the hangers, they were likely added later.

If it was an L48 (350/300HP) then it was an SS and would have had dual exhaust.  If it was an L65 (350/250HP) then it was not an SS and would not automatically have received dual exhaust, but it was available as an extra cost option.
