Where to cut roof off 69 coupe
« on: August 17, 2014, 01:27:18 AM »
I got a parts car a few months back. I am wanting to save EVERYTHING that is usable. Where do I cut the sail panel on the inside lower to save a very nice roof? I am wanting to keep brace support that goes to outer wheel houses. Would like to keep inner 1/4 window metal. Filler panel is good too. 1/4s, trunk floor, tail panel,LH frame rail are junk. Rear seat braces and wheel houses are rusted as well as floor. Already cut firewall cowl area off. Thanks CRG.

I would probably cut it at the bottom of the A-pillars save the complete A-pillar, Then at the rear I would cut it at the bottom of the sail panel..... The filler panel isnt rusted out where the back window sits ?

Filler is not rusted out! Hard to believe, that is why I am saving it. I would like a more descriptive cut area on the inside sail area. I am thinking along the seam where the bottom of sail snaps in and the painted sill aera meet. I already cut the pillars in front.

Geez, you should get in contact with KERR he needs a roof and a lot of other panels, if you don't have a car that needs them maybe you could work something out with him

Actually, I did let him know I had a good roof if he wanted it, but he did not bite. It was 2 months ago when I got the car, maybe he will change his mind.

he did!  but we are quite a few miles apart, ;)

As i keep taking tuff apart the more i need,  and i dont do stuff half way so i guess ill have brand new 69 camaro when done :(   so not the project i wanted or the any where close to my plan...

I called about shell the other day on line,  of course no answer and no call back..   I have yet to understand why people post things for sale but dont answer the phone..

Im trying to decide if i want to get each panel or a body....   I cant get a body shop around here to tell me what the cost is,   I know they work by hours,  I dont see why it so hard to say " we charge $50.00 a hour,  or $200 a hour"   give me an idea of where im heading... if i do a floor pan, fire wall,  bottom a pillars, new 1/4's  and inner 1/4's, roof skin, etc..  it might be the same amount as just buying that body already put together...

but after two dogs and cat in the animal hospital all at the same time last week im in vet bill shock... Patrick didnt make it :-(  ( cat ) so i replaced him with two kittens... one for each kid.  Got the cremation bill for him today... now i guess i need to find a head stone...

They probably don't wanna give you a price because with rust you  don't know what you have until it's tore down to replace the parts that you want to replace.... Also most body shops don't like careers ... They want to bolt on a fender blend it buff it ship it......Also you usually spend more time then you quoted but you can't charge the customer to put on and take off the quarter 10 times to get everything fit....Also your location may have something to do with the situation ..

if you can't do the work yourself, I'm quite confident that to buy the parts, then pay someone 'local' to install them correctly will cost you more than the cost of the entire repro body.
