Great work by a fellow member
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:58:36 PM »
Follow up on DWCOOK ,plating. Had Darrell plate some brackets for me ,while he had it gave him the green light on tackling the horn relay. Appeared ok outside but corroded under the cap. He just sent me back the pics and I am more than pleased ! Even sent me a clip of it in operation---music to my ears. Should be getting everything back this weekend and excited to post. However may be easier if he just posts a link. Don't be modest ;)

Also have been in touch with Scott Owens of Palmetto Enterprise concerning Phosphate, great guy ,answered any questions ,and product on the way. Looking forward to getting to it ,of course got to finish some painting for my wife first !

Thanks for the kind words Steve..   ;D

Here is before pics.

After:

Horn Relay Before

After:  Reason for the gold was when I removed the cap there were signs of gold cad along the edge.  So I put it back the way I thought it was originally. May not be "correct" but I did what I thought was originally there..

I will be shipping everything out this coming Saturday (16th) due to my work schedule..  Sorry for the inconvenience...   :-[

Those look great. Question.....did you plate the two brake hose holders for any specific reasons?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes because I was asked to plate them..  ;D

No Steve will have to post why he wanted them that way.  If I had to guess it was for the corrosion factor..   ???

I've read either silver cad or black in finish , all in all really could not hurt to give him something to practice on. I really had no idea what was original in finish, they had long been coated over and have not been on the car over 20 years---converted to a single caliper ,now it's going back. Plus I think the cad finish will give a little detail in that area.

I thought they were dipped in black originally. But, it sure can't hurt to have it as an undercoat if it's decided to blacken them later.
How may seconds did you leave it in the dichromate bath?

It varies depending on the part.
