Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1969 Camaro L65 350 -- Missing engine vin

I'll take this opportunity to welcome jbehr210 to the site. I hope you find this the place to "hang" for all your Camaro questions/comments? It would be nice to get to know more about you and your car. Pictures are real nice too as most here cannot get enough Camaro, lol. Questions like, how long you have owned your car? How you acquired your car? Any history about your car? A little bio on yourself? Again, welcome.

Thanks ko-lek-tor for the welcome.
I did find out the engine VIN does match the chassis and trans VIN , thanks to Kurt. It was difficult to get it cleaned well enough to see it.

I originally had a 69 RS 396 that originally was silver with a red interior back in 77,78,79. The guy i bought it from had painted it the 70's lime green, painted the interior black and swapped the 396 for a 327. It had two super dark green stripes. Looked really good.
I always wanted another, and after the kids were out I found this 69 in Nebraska. Purchased it June 2015. Still needs alot of work to get it where I want, but I am just enjoying working on it. Hope to make this one even better than the first one. Still debating on keeping it mostly original versus adding modern parts to it, like a 5 speed, better suspension, etc. I did put in a Flaming River rack n pinion power steering kit with a tilt steering wheel, and am glad i did. That armstrong steering is a little more difficult these days!! lol. I will try to attach a few pics of it from the day i purchased it.

Never had a Sag 3-speed myself, but as far as I know, in that 1969 era the input shaft would have been a coarse spline as you suggested. Hopefully someone familiar with the M15 can confirm, but a trans shop (or an online vendor's site like Summit or JEGS with an application selection tool) should be able to confirm?

As far as the clutch diameter goes, do you know what size flywheel your engine has, as you'll need to make sure the new clutch matches. In addition, the flywheel may well need to be surfaced, so personally I'd pull the trans to check all the details and condition before ordering new parts. Means more down time, but at least you'll know exactly what you need and won't waste time and money chasing parts.

ZLP955, Point taken. Thanks

Any of the standard replacement clutches that you can buy should work fine and have low pedal pressure.
Your car doesn't have a 11" bellhousing, so that's not a good option.

Ok on the bellhousing.
I am not sure what clutch is in it now, but it is hard to push the pedal even for me. I have only had the car for less than a year so i haven't torn into the drivetrain until now. I noticed some slip and smell when I pushed it the other day and figured it is time to replace it. I suspect the clutch in it is 10+ years old.

All the information you need is in the free GM HERITAGE CENTER PACKAGE for your particular year and model, but in a nutshell, your M15 is a 10 spline input and requires a 9.12" clutch (commonly known as a 10" clutch) if you have an L6, or a 10.34" clutch (commonly known as the 10.5" clutch) if you have a small block.

Ed

Thanks for  this info. I had never heard of this site before. I have a 350 so the 10.5 inch should be the one.

Really no one knows, or did I post this in the wrong forum section?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Does anyone have the specs for clutch replacement for a Saginaw M15 3 speed.
I dont want to pull the transmission out before ordering a new clutch. I am not sure if it is a 10 spline,( i think it is), and what the benefits/disadvantages are for the 10.4" clutch versus a 11" clutch.

Does adding a hydraulic throw out bearing make the clutch easier to push in? I would like to allow my wife to drive the car too, but the clutch is just to hard for her to push in.

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Ok. I took another look and think i do see it by the oil filter. I missed it 3 or 4 times in the past. It is hard to see. I will have to take a wire brush to it to get a good look.
Thanks for the heads up.
To answer Paul, build date 9/69 VIN 124379N685917

If this is numbers matching, how do i find out how many cars with these features were made?

Thanks guys!!

Decoding/Numbers / 1969 Camaro L65 350 -- Missing engine vin

I am trying to verify if the engine in the Camaro i bought last summer is the original. I found the T09I1HC code on the block in front of number 2 cylinder but no VIN. I looked by the oil filter, no VIN.
I found th e VIN on the Saginaw 3 speed and it matches.

Anybody have any ideas?
