Previous post was a test. I am not all "that" handy with computers but get along OK. I was doing basic sort of fixes (what Picasa calls "I Feel Lucky") to improve the pictures. I have a couple more. My brother said if it wasn't for me taking these that he would have had no pictures at all of the car.
This is from right around 1977 or so. It was probably a year before he sold the car. He noticed the sidepipes I previously mentioned were not on the car yet, although he did have them, he got them with the car. I have a few more pictures I will post.

PS notice you can't read the rear license plate, he kept it pretty slimed up with oil to pic up road dirt to keep it dirty for some odd reason ;)

Now that I have them all up, a few personal notes. The truck in front of the Z is my dads old 66 Chevy. The small lettering on the back of the slide-in camper says "The Dog House" which I guess he put on there as a joke (us kids rode back there a lot on family trips). The old blue Chevy across the street was my older sisters 68 (I believe) BelAir, almost has to be a 67 or 68. My younger brother eventually bought the 66 truck from my dad and heavily modified it, it was pretty cool when he was done with it, although he kept the inline 6 cyl he did some weird induction thing to it, like 3 1 barrels or something, and also the exhaust he did something weird like headers or a split exhaust or something.

I asked my wife what details she remembered (her brother who worked there passed on a year or two ago and the car I am sure is long since crushed, so there is no real harm in discussing it). She say her brother actually asked the guy on the line installing the sunroofs if he could instal it himself, which the other worker agreed to. My brother in law was a floater and had done the installation before. Was a simple matter of picking up "this" sunroof over "that" one. And they were both flip-up roofs, the Caddy one was probably a darker tint or something.
She does know the radio installed wasn't suppose to be in a Cavalier, although it fit the hole fine, the old "ETR2000" radios were all interchangeable. my wife doesn't know what was different about it, I am thinking possibly it had a built-in graphic equalizer? I think this would have been before CD players were out. Anyways, she also knows it had Caddy speakers, to which I asked if they were Bose speakers and she thought that sounded right.
The car also ended up being delivered to the wrong dealer, I guess in order to order a car you had to pick a dealer to order it from. It would seem way easier for the employee to just take it from the factory but it doesn't work that way. I guess I can sort of understand why, the car has to be prepped and all that and a plant is probably just not set up to process the sale. So he had to track down where the car was, it wasn't very far away at all. Personally I don't think the wrong dealer could have legally even sold it, they wouldn't have had the MSO to get it even registered to a new owner. But anyways the car carrier company had to pick it up and take it to the correct dealer.

69Z28-RS, well it really did happen that way and I'm sure not the only one. Again it wasn't like the car was drastically modified, like the sunroof hole being different. Not saying it was a weird sort of one-off car or that most people would even notice the changes. Not saying it had Cadillac wheel or anything obvious. But yeah back then an employee could escort the car down the line. I don't know about the other manufacturers, but the way GM was back then, yeah all it took was a fellow employee escorting a car down the line to get a few extras; "Hey Charlie, put the fancier sunroof glass in my sisters car wouldya?".
The glass moulding studs (or I would think clips?), yeah who would think of that, as jacmac pointed out.
Another thing about identifying the car as an employee car is i believe the window sticker would have this noted if I remember correctly, although I don't think the window sticker is in place until late in production. But if anyone still has the window sticker it is probably noted on it, somewhere near where the selling dealer is located.

Interesting relating story in regards to this, which may sort of support what was said:
My brother in law worked at the GM plant in Janesville WI (now closed but on stand-by status, but no one in Janesville is really truly expecting it to reopen, although it is still part of "THE NEW GM", yippee.
Back in the 80s they built the Cavalier and the infamous Caddy Cimmaron. So his sister (my sister in law) ordered a new Cavalier, and as the guy stated to paulsstuff, he walked the car down the line making sure everyone knew it was his sisters car. She ordered a sunroof for example and a Cimmaron sunroof was installed instead of the cheaper Chevy one (I don't know what the difference was, I'm sure it wasn't a case of power glass vs manual though). The noise insulation panels were way better on a Cimmaron and those were used, and better radio speakers, all for example. I'm sure the seats and so forth were the Chevy seats, it's not like they changed a bunch of things, but yes some better stuff ended up in that car.

We or at least I am not really sure. If my brother knows he hasn't mentioned it. He knows he is the 3rd owner. He knows the 2nd owner, although has not talked to him in a number of years he said. Back then we were from Middleton, WI. Assuming the car was from the area originally (which is no stretch, as my brother owned it right around 1976 or 7), then in 69 the dealer in town would have been Hults Chevrolet in Madison I believe, or Thorstad, although I think it became thorstad a short time after 69.
Also, in the prior post concerning this car, my brother does believe it had the cross ram intake originally but for some reason it was swapped to a GM 4 bbl intake. I know he let the car go with the cross ram intake, stupid mistake but hindsite it 20/20, man I shoulda bought the car myself! If it would help ID the car it also had Crane heads on it (Fireball angle plug heads).
I may be all messed up about the headers, he is saying it had Hookers on it.
Interesting about the side pipes, I know for a fact it had those put on it by my brother, but not until later in the time frame he owned it.
On the 67-68 side pipes, did they look as I am remembering, just plain black, no sheilding, really industrial-looking? I really liked it, fit the cars' look to a T.
He did all the care/maintenance on the car. My dad owned a gas station in Middleton. We were usually slow on Saturdays and he and I spent many a Saturday washing it and adjusting the valves, which seemed way over the top to do that every weekend, maybe it wasn't as often as I remember.

Hey all, asking this about my brothers old car, I posted about it once before. So just for my own curiosity.

Were there factory headers available on a 69 Z28? I thought I had read something to the effect that the factory supplied them in the trunk when new if you ordered them and the dealer installed them. I could see why as much as my brother dragged his headers when entering driveways for example, would be hard to transport it if it was that low.
Also what about sidepipes? I mentioned this before in my other post. The car was so ungodly loud that he eventually put on what I thought he said were the original headers and sidepipes, does this make sense? They were really cool loooking, just flat black with no heat shield at all.

Thanks to all. I asked at WI dmv if they can help with the ID number and they daid no, only 5 yrs. The person who replied did say that they looked and saw no 69 Camaro for my brother, so must be purged already, which is understandable if they say they only keep 5 yrs worth of records.
I have a few other ideas, like seeing if he wants to contact the prior owner, I think he still knows him (to see if he has a recod of it at all).

Not sure where this car was in 74, but it didn't have a cloth interior, it was black vinyl.

I did take some pics of the car back in the day which my brother has, I should see if he can dig those up and I'd post them.
