General Discussion / Re: LA built Camaros rear leaf spring black paint
« on: March 26, 2025, 01:50:24 PM »
A past discussion on LOS spring and tank factory paint:   http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=11984.15
I have a few pictures of my 67 LOS survivor in that thread.

Below is a picture from a past discussion of the same car w/396 engine mount bolts facing upwards. My 67 NOR car has them facing downwards.

I found one of those in my 67 LOS Camaro under the seat.
I think that is the interior stye tag. Does the 414 number in the upper right match the sequence number on the trim tag by chance?

Originality / Re: Capacitor Mounting Bracket
« on: October 23, 2024, 12:03:23 AM »
Both my 67 L35's have the capacitors on the coil and voltage regulator as well as the ground springs in the wheel hubs.
Attached are pictures of the 04B LOS L35 survivor showing the coil and original voltage regulator & capacitors (or condensers as called in the auto industry). The cap is mounted on the coil bracket. Both cars only have the AM radio option.

Restoration / Re: Ignition cylinder
« on: August 15, 2024, 11:15:34 PM »
You need to turn the key while a paperclip is inserted into the hole so the cylinder will pop out.
I never tried it without a key though. Maybe try a flat screwdriver that will fit into the key opening, but don't go too deep, and with a paper clip, see if the cylinder turns.
Let us know the results.

Good luck!

General Discussion / Re: Website not secure

Two things can cause that, Chick.
1- The web site is using http:// instead of https://
CRG is using http:// so a web browser will flag it as 'Connection is not secure'.
2- The web site has an expired SSL certificate. CRG is not using an SSL certificate being it is not running https://

Garage Talk / Re: Coker tire failure
« on: July 27, 2024, 02:04:29 PM »
Hi Camaronut,

Sorry for the delay reply. I've been out of the country for a while.
Coker never got back to me even writing them twice. One last effort will be to call their phone number.
The tires are 6 years old so I figure the pro-rating wouldn't amount to much.
The other tires will be just as risky to drive, IMO. I live out in the country so driving at 55mph+ speeds on open side roads is common, and I don't trust the other 3 tires anymore as related to sudden sidewall failure. Also, this NTSB report from 2014 on sidewall failures vs. age still stays in my mind. Though this only reports on radial tires.
It's interesting reading. https://www.ntsb.gov/news/events/Documents/2014_Tire_Safety_SYM_Panel_4b_Kane.pdf

I'm looking at Diamond Back radial redline tires as a possible replacement. My show days for points are over so I just enjoy the occasional drive on nice days and having non-correct radials isn't an issue.  Based on the recommend 6 year life of a tire as the report is suggestion,  I can just buy the Coker tires again. But the price sure went up on them!

See the attached photo from my 67 04B LOS.
Looks like it was taped back but it has the boot.

Garage Talk / Coker tire failure
« on: June 25, 2024, 01:45:33 AM »

As you all probably do too, I always do a walk around and check the tires including the inner and outer walls. This is what I found today before heading to a local cruise. This happened between this past Saturday and today. There are only smooth blacktop roads by me so no chance of a pothole damaging the sidewall. The date code on the sidewall is March 2018 for these Coker Firestone Wide Oval D70-14 redlines which I had mounted in April 2018. Probably 2000 miles on them, if that much. The other 3 look good but it doesn't give me a warm feeling to know they are the same age.
  Oh well!

Strange 'broach' marks direction on that pad. IMHO, an April engine assembly date of a popular motor in a June scheduled to build car seems odd.

Restoration / Re: bellhousing alignment-any new info?
« on: May 18, 2024, 06:14:45 PM »
My transmission went through needle bearing pilot bushings a lot. Here is a past CRG thread. Check out my reply #12. I used a magnetic gauge from Harbor Freight to dial in the bellhousing alignment. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=16097.0
I stopped using the needle bearing and went back to the bronze bushing now that the alignment is dialed in correctly.

General Discussion / Re: 1967 seat belt clips

My 04B LOS w/console and no gauges and 05B NOR w/factory console + gauges and both with standard interior and belts don't have those clips.

Didn't John Z once say that it was common when cleaning spray guns to spray under the chassis? Not sure where in the process that was done and if the LOS plant did that too.

Restoration / Re: Correct orientation power top relay
« on: March 22, 2024, 08:17:45 PM »
Hi Tim,

I replaced mine years ago with a 4849847 NOS unit and it has a copper plated longer stud and a zinc plated shorter stud. It is possible the NOS is different to an assembly line era part.
I have seen some with both studs copper plated too. Plus, it is a 40amp breaker. I see aftermarket breakers are stamped 30 amp. I'm not convinced that is correct though. If you look up the P/N in the GM WIKI, it lists it as 40amp.
