It was owned and driven in several Trans-Am races by John Elliott, a car salesman at Preston Hood Chevrolet in Fort Walton Beach, FL. It was co-driven by Don Gwynne in the 1970 and 1971 Daytona 24 Hour and the 1970 and 1971 Sebring 12 Hour.

The drag race guys are not running alternators so they charge them between rounds.

They are used a lot in drag racing. They are expensive though and I think you need a special charger.

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Batteries Used in Trans Am Cars?

1109rwhp - looks where I am thinking for mine.  My cage has the same bar.  Did you build a stand so the battery is level as the trunk floor drops?  I don't get the switch on the back side of the battery.

John - looks fantastic.  My fuel filter is there and that's where my fuel lines will run to the center console and to the front of the car.

I used a stock tray and welded spacers to the bottom to get it to sit level. There are nuts welded to the underside of the trunk floor for it to bolt to. The switch with the red knob is just a battery shut off. It is a street car by the way so it is no in a legal race position. This is a Mustang, not a Camaro too.

That is what I did on mine.

Check out the decals this guy sells on Ebay for extiguishers and batteries. I wanted to put a vintage looking fire extinguisher in my T/A Boss clone so I took a halotron extinguisher and used one of his decals to make it look correct. Same with the batteries.

Ok, thanks. I think a lot of the info she is giving is wrong. Not sure the McLaren is real either. 1/3 of the cars there are kit cars.

Does anyone know what the story is on this 69 Camaro at the 8:57 mark in this crazy car collection? Don't miss the Smothers Brother's McLaren at 22.10 either.

Pretty cool video. Love the street driving portion. I did not quite get what they were talking about with the hood. Were they implying the air went in between the hood and the header panel?

That silver roll cage in reply #24 is scary looking.
