General Discussion / Re: JL8 Front Brakes

The rear end has not been changed, it is the original.  He thought about changing the rear end but he did not, the JL8 rear end is MIA.  I know where it was last stored but I can not find it, though the search continues.

Thanks for the info, it appears to be exactly what was done to my car.  There is a small piece of brake line that had to be modified for the JL8 brakes to be used.  My father-in-law took JL8 front brakes off his wrecked Z28 and put them on the Z28 I am restoring.

Would the front spidles on a JL8 car be different than the spindles on a car with power disc brakes.  I noticed in a Classic Industries parts book that the part numbers are different for drum brake and disc brake spindles.  If the JL8 hubs are the same as drum brake hubs, do the spindles need to be replaced aslo, or will the original spindles for power disc brakes work ok if the JL8 brake hardware was to be used?

Are there replacement JL8 hub assemblies available?

After looking at these pictures closer, they might be the same if the rotor will slide off the hub assembly-hard to tell from the photo.  I can not tell if the outside of the rotor is flat or if it has a lip where the hub attaches.  Are the rotors and hubs in the pictures JL8 option parts?

No, there are no bolts holding the rotor to the hub accept the wheel stud lug nuts.  When you remove the wheel the rotor will also come off if you take off the brake caliper.

I am working on a 69 Z28 which has power disc front brakes, the rotor assembly has the bearing inside the rotor and a single piston caliper.  The set of front brakes I am refering to came off a 69 Z28 that had the JL8 option and they have a seperate hub assembly from the rotor, you can remove the brake rotor without touching the bearing.

The JL8 front brakes are different than regular power disc brakes, the JL8 brakes have dual piston calipers and a seperate hub assembly from the rotor don't they?

Does anyone know what an original set of front JL8 brakes would be worth?  The hubs, rotors, and calipers came off a 69 Z28 that was wrecked, the calipers are siezed but the hubs and rotors are in good condition.
