General Discussion / '69 Z/28 steering box
« on: October 26, 2024, 04:07:37 PM »
Hi guys, need help with a '69 Z/28 built in Van Nuys..One owner car no known repairs per owner..I'm restoring the car and this is what I found with my p/s gear box..It has a Saginaw box casting number 7826692, cover number is 7812145 and dated 15th of '69 and correct pitman arm 3953227..My build date is 3rd week of March 1969..I have the chassis broadcast sheet indicating it was a factory p/s car..
L to L is just over 2 full turns..

Has anyone seen this steering box installed in either a Van Nuys car or Norwood

Any information will be appreciated

Thanks Dave

Restoration / Re: 1969 z/28 rear four leaf springs
« on: July 24, 2024, 09:41:43 PM »
You are correct they only sell new products..My four leafs are the original to my '69 z/28..They are different from the current springs being produced (and Eaton will tell you the difference if you ask)..I was able to get some measurments out of the on the specs..

I was told to lay the leaf springs on their side..Take a straight edge and run it the length of the spring..Place the straight edge in line with the center of the eyelets..Measure upwards to the "pin" area in the spring pack..They gave me a measurment of 5 3/8" +- from the straight edge to the spring pack..However I need to call them back to clarify the inside of the spring pack or the top..Sorry for the partial response

Hi guys does anyone have information/recommendations on the factory arch/dimensions etc on my 4-leaf springs..I want to re-arch them to the correct factory specs..Maybe someone knows a business out there they'd recommend..I'd prefer using the original springs as they are originals..I have a local spring builder that is willing to re-arch them but we need some specs?

Thanks Dave

Restoration / DZ motor ID #'s
« on: November 19, 2009, 09:56:58 PM »
I took a DZ motor to a machine shop for a rebuild.  Before dropping it off, I wrote down all of the numbers.  Checked on it today and found it had been "decked" and the #'s and "DZ" markings are gone.  Anyone have suggestions on restamping?
