General Discussion / Re: Canadian Doc's
« on: May 29, 2016, 02:16:01 PM »
I don't know much about Canadian documents, but one must remember that documents can be (and are) faked

If someone didn`t like or didn`t trust my `Canadian documents` in hand as real - assuming I was selling it, all I would have them do to put their mind at ease would be to give them George Zapora`s number or someone else at GM Vintage services. Then they could get it validated over the phone (if they still do that - as he confirmed my car for me as a Z28 model from the VIN, prior to my buying the car some 26 years ago) or for a prospective and serious buyer, the relatively small fee of $100 gets them the documentation package so they themselves can read it and check the car and the as delivered options against what they are looking at..
Unless they don`t trust GM itself, I can`t think of a better way to put a prospective buyer at ease with such a purchase...  But that's just my own personal opinion..  Randy

I agree Randy....the Can Doc's are/ were a great paper trail to have on the Authenticity of a Car....not sure how that plays out today as the last time I checked the Can GM Vintage Services......I noticed that George has gone on his own now...George is a great guy and a straight shooter, I had a 69 that we always thought was a US sold Car, when I called George he said send in the VIN and if its not a Can Car...no charge, I was surprised to find out that it was a Can sold car so he sent in the paper work with a nice package, all for 50 bucks back then....not sure how it works now as it looks like he went on his own, I could be wrong....I believe George frequents this site, perhaps he can verify....I agree with everyone else as well, that nowadays, we are better informed on the First Gens today than I when I first got into the Hobby.....I love Original Cars but today for some reason, the plain Jane Coupes appeal to just as much or more because every 69 Camaro at the Cruise nights is an SS or a Z/28....out of 10 in the Lot...1 may be a real one....this Forum has really opened my Eyes ever since I joined...and I still learn new things today about these Cars

My Master is starting to 'go" on my car and before I do anything I want to make sure whether it is an original 69 Master or not....I read the CRG reports on Masters' and cant quite get a definate.....it reads "made in the USA" on the bottom but I cannot see any numbers....where or what else should I look for? I will post a pic later on.....if its a replacement....I'm not going to rebuild it. Thanks in advance for any input. Here are the pics.

Thanks for all the help everybody, i appreciate the great advice! I definately want to do it right... now i just need to figure out how to push it on the trailer lol....

Edit: the last time it was started was about 8 months ago... im not sure if that changes cancam69's advice but im thinking i will do it that way anyway to be safe.

8mos. is not that long.....make sure the gas was stabalized(bring a fresh jerry can full Gas...highest octane you can get)......when you get there.....just crank the engine over (no gas...you may want to remove the main coil wire)....crank it until you see the oil preassure reach 40psi or so(hopefully it has an oil pressure gauge)....then you can give it fire....no need to push! Good luck and let us know how it goes and of course pics are mandatory,LOL.

Hey everyone i am new here and just wanted to say hi. I do have a question, hopefully this sunday i am going to pick my 69 Camaro up from another state. I plan on trailering it home due to a 100 mile journey. My concern is that the car hasnt been started in awhile and i was wondering what i might need/want to bring in order to start her up to drive onto the trailer... Possibly fresh gasoline? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am going through this process right now.....my 69 has been in storage for 8 Years......my reccomendation is to push it on the trailer if possible and do the re-start process right.....pull all the plugs out and spray a good lubricant in the cylinders (many will suggest various products) I used WD-40 and let it sit overnight....go back next day and crank the motor by hand (5/8" socket on the crank pulley) see how that goes....if it turns freely....you are almost there....next, go buy a primeing tool......this goes where your distributer is mounted so it must be removed (I would drain all the old oill and let drain overnight ...do this when you spray the cylinders)....put in fresh oil and use the prime tool....it is operated by an electric drill.......this will get oil to the main bearings and prevent a dry start and major damage and of course drain all the gas and clean/ re-build carb and add fresh gas....this of course depends on how long it has been stored....good luck and do it right!!

General Discussion / Re: 1st Gen Question

Funny thing about my '69 RS that I never have quite understood.  When I purchased the car in Nov 1991, at that time you could still, to a certain degree, trace the car's history back through title searches via various state DMV's.  I was able to trace my car back to the person who owned it in 1983 in Chambersburg, PA.  The title was issued on Dec 8, 1983.

This is where it gets interesting.  The PA title also clearly shows that the car was originally titled on Feb 24, 1969 (my ride is a Norwood built 01C car) and then if you look just to the right of "Chevrolet" you see the letters "CP".  According to the legend to the right, C = classic car, P = formerly a police vehicle.  The car clearly was never a police car per se.  Don't know if it was confiscated by a police dept and used undercover or what the deal really was.

I have never been able to find out any more information.

See attached - not the best pic due to file size limitations, but I believe you can see the code lettering.

Interesting....could it also be for Coupe?

General Discussion / 1st Gen Question

Sorry if this has been asked before....were any first Gens' used by Police forces across north America? and if so....what special treatment did they receive? Did they have a differnt Trim Tag/Vin? I am asking this because I remember a local car show here years ago and the local police had a display, there was definatlely a 57' chev and I swear the other car was a 69 Camaro (I could be dead wrong of course) if my memory is not failing me and they were used as Police vehicles....any pics? Thanks in advance.

If you mean the tapping plate mig-welded on the outboard side of the rear rail, yes - '69 coupes with dual exhausts got that plate.

Do you know if single exhaust 69 Camaros had pilot holes where the dual exhaust plate attaches on the outer left frame rail?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Trim tag numbers
« on: June 03, 2009, 04:58:50 PM »
Does the GM Canada paperwork include the vin number? If so does it match your car? If both of these match, could someone have changed the trim tag? Does the car match the trim tag, or the paperwork?

GM Canada will only do a search/Document your Canadian sold Camaro if you send in a VIN #...so, yes the VIN # will be with the documents provided.

Yeah I was debating if it was worth it. I can pick up a couple of pretty good reference books for that price and already decoded the info myself.

Camcam69
I am refering to a packet that The center offers for US made vehicles. General info etc. They started charging for it. I should have ordered it years ago for free.

Sorry, my bad....I thought it was the GM Vintage Vehicle Service offered up here in Canada.

Restoration / Re: Trunk Spatter Paint Color for 1st Gens.
« on: June 02, 2009, 02:51:18 PM »
Two vendors are making the correct truck spatter paint for first gen Camaros.  Larry Christensen at Camaros Plus in Arvada, CO and Brian Henderson at Supercar Workshop in LaTrobe, PA.  Both are the accepted standard in concours judging and pretty damn close to the original.  A professional pressure gun is needed to apply this paint.  If you are hoping to find the right stuff in a rattle can, forget it.

Jerry

Jerry, would you know if anyone is distributing this product up here in Canada? I went for a longshot today and tried my local GM Dealership for the splatter paint that was previously posted here....not even on their Radar anymore....thanks in advance for your help.
