Restoration / EARLY 1968 RS Grill Attaching Screws
« on: September 19, 2012, 10:55:37 PM »
If you have an EARLY 1968 RS Camaro..Build date of 9A..9B..9C..9D..10A..10B..10C..10D
and your Camaro is ORIGINAL..I would like to see pictures of the lower grill attaching screws and nuts that hold it to the lower valance. IT will help myself and others for restoration purposes.  The 68 AIM ist specific on these screws and nuts and it would be good for everyone if we knew what was used on an ORIGINAL car during these dates.
Thank you for your help.

Jerry G. and Martin....
Thank you for taking your time to help.  I would like to see all of the pics and info!!
Jerry, I could not open pics either. (I do have a reader ;D)
I do not disagree with the thought that the "screw and nut" could be a different configuration than what is showing in the AIM but I would like to see a picture or two of a 9, 10 or 11 month 67',  RS build,  lower grill assembly.
Martin, please send me those pics when you are feeling better.
Regards,
Lane

Hello Jerry,
Thank you for your response !!
You are right, that type of screw and nut were used on 05 (May) 68' build RS Camaro's and later. (approximately).
I am in search of an early build RS using what appears in the 68' AIM... screw and nut assembly......used from approxinately Sept 67-March 68 (09-03 dates), based on research from the CRG Forum.
Regards,
Lane

Thanks for your response!! ;D

The AIM for 68 (page 424...Z22 / A4...parts 6 and 8)  showing SCREWS and NUTS attaching lower grill to lower valance.
I want to verify this with someone who has an early 68 RS.
My car is a 10B build.

Thanks again

My RS/SS is a 10B build.  In the AIM, Pg 424, Z22 / A4, it shows:
6 = Screw #9419303
8 = Nut #9422836
Does anyone have a picture or know what size srew and nut this was?
Early cars used screws and nuts across the bottom of the GRILLE-LOWER (7) to attach to the LOWER VALANCE PANEL
as pictured in the AIM. I believe the nut had a star washer attached too. I appreciate your help!

Do you have an "SS" style hood or "standard" hood?
Do you have Z87 interior?

Can someone help me with a "simple" answer to this question?
I have a 1968 Camaro, RS/SS, AC, 350 with RPO Z87.
Question.....Was the hood insulation "molded" with indentions for air cleaner, A/C, etc....OR was it "smooth" with no indentions.

Thank You!! ;D  ;D  ;D

Chick / Rat Pack..
See Ed Bertrand's post previously in this topic.  I believe that is the superceded deep curve crank you speak of.
part number 20348200.
Hope this helps.

Rat Pack...
My understanding is the "800" handle has been superceded twice and is still avaliable from GM .
It has the run"deep curve" in it.
