Originality / Re: 1967 front spoiler
« on: October 04, 2022, 07:38:13 PM »
Hi guys,
Thanks for the responses. I am aware of the lack of a factory spoiler in 1967 thus not called "original or factory". However simply looking at the Trans-Am thread, there are 1967 pictures of some of the Camaro's that do have a short front spoiler installed, a few of them seem be of the same design. The CAR SHOP offers a "correct" (FWIW) front spoiler that looks quite similar to the 1967 pictures (#67-13001) but have been backordered for quite some time. Some company was producing these. I was simply wondering if anyone had knowledge of the manufacture or another supplier that carried these.
BTW I would never put a large '68 spoiler on a 67, almost as bad as a rear spoilers that have such a large gap you can fit fingers between the bottom of the spoiler and the quarter panel
( I see these on many "original" cars) or a cowl hood on anything other than a '69.

Hi guys,
Does anyone know a supplier that carries the correct 1967 front spoiler?

Depending on how good the OO prepped before he painted the motor you may be able to Hi-pressure or steam clean the repaint off.
Works on Earl Scheib style paint jobs too.

Just wondering how many of us have cell phones or have benefited from modern medicine ? We are clearly on the world wide web. Older generation rodders decried flathead swaps, thought the world was ending then too. life goes on regardless of opinions. We should be happy with our life's and what we have accomplished. Me, me, me will never be a winning strategy.
Hope we are not chasing kids off our lawns either. MTC

There was a small turnout due to sprinkling and threating sky's.
I picked up a set of 67/68 RS headlight bezels ($15) and another pair of blank 68 valve covers ($10).
Entrance is now $12, but cost thousands of dollars for gas just to get there!

The Allen Industries building in Compton still stands, with the faded name still readable on the wall.

Research Topics & Reports / Re: 67 SS hood photos needed

ED,
Would that mean all 350 cars have the first design hood ? photos should be plentiful.
Other than the production week stamp is there a part # stamped somewhere ?
 Byron,
If its me causing you stress, sorry. I am simply trying to learn. The fact that the week stamped on my hood lines up with the cars production date leads me to believe the hood is original, could be wrong but
quickly dismissing something we have no facts for is puzzling, we are a research group. You mentioned the early hoods were weak with less reinforcement, is there a picture of any quality of the bottom
  of a first design ?
Thanks for the help and what you do,

I mean the sheet metal was changed long before the production line changeover occurred. (my 08E 68 has a trunk lid holes pressed for a spoiler that was not yet an option)
Do you mean that the factory was stamping two styles at the same time ?  I doubt that.
I believe a better indicator would be the stamped date on the hood regardless of motor size. My understanding is that most components were not stored and were supplied as production orders
were requested. What is the latest 67 SS that got the first design hood? original owner ?

It seems the sheet metal guys were way ahead of the production lines when implementing changes for future options ( holes for spoilers too, the 67 B hood is stamped 43 =  week of 10.24.66)
Hood seems to be properly dated and original as the rest of the car but I was only 4 yrs old when it was built. We may have to change the designation of SS350, 396 type to early and late type.

Decoding/Numbers / 67 SS hood fin shape, 2 part #'s
« on: January 13, 2022, 02:45:18 AM »
I realized today that there are two different outer fin shapes, # 3898132 has squared outer  fin ends, # 3914781 has all rounded fins.
Early vs late ? My brother's Nova has the rounded fins. Anyone get to the bottom of this before?

   Thanks,
    Victor
