Wow very interseting storys JohnZ. Love hearing about anything that went on at an assembly plant. Especially at Chevrolet Engineering. I have a copy of Paul Van Vaulkenburgh's "Chevrolet racing?" book. I still to this day cannot beieve some of the stuff that went on at Chevrolet. Simply stunning.. Did you know Paul? Did you work with him on any projects? He was involved with the D80 spoiler design. Real cool stuff.

I once had a tour through the Framingham, Mass. plant back in early 80's. I believe they produced Chevelles also back in the day. When I was there Chevy Celeberty wagons were rolling out the door...

General Discussion / Re: I need a cross ram intake for a dz 302

I have a Hi Performance cars mag that has an article about the cross ram. They do a test with it at Motion performance. Funny as they (the editors and car owner) were complaining about how much the set-up costs.. $600.. without labor!!

They go on to say that this setup runs almost as good as a 427. Wow.
Neat article. Has a few pics of Motions shop and some street hot rods.

General Discussion / Re: Intake Question
« on: December 29, 2007, 02:42:50 PM »
First post, fantastic site.

I have a question about an intake that I have. It is a 198 from either a L-88 or a ZL-1. Casting date is 8.10.68. Now the tricky part. The last 2 digits in the part number "98" has been ground down and hand stamped "98." I have had this intake a long time. It came from a family member.
Did con-artists do this kinda stuff 40 years ago?

Colvins CBTN book documents this intake as being found with the numbers ground off and restamped.

Anyone think this is a legit intake? I can provide pics. I would just like to find out if this came from and engine? Or over the counter? or maybe a L-88? I highly doubt it was on a ZL-1. Or is it a fake?

Any comments?

Thanks
