Hi Philip,

Can you post an image of  the TrimTag?

It will tell where it was built.

Foreign Camaros / Re: Is this the first 69 Camaro sold direct to Sweden?
« on: January 05, 2014, 08:14:55 AM »
The most common year of Camaros in Sweden is the 1969 model with around 500 cars. Total of 67-69 is around 1100 cars out of a total number of slightly less than 6000 Camaros. THe number has increased in the last years with a 5th gen cars which has sold very well over here.

In the summer you can see Camaros out on the roads almost everywhere. In September I did a long drive to a meeting (with my daily driver) and in a stretch of about 200 miles i saw 4 Camaros, one 1st Gen and three 5th Gen.

Foreign Camaros / Re: 69 export (KPH) Speedo wanted

They are hard to find.

We have a few export models here in Sweden, and sometimes a speedo comes up for sale. I haven't seen one though in many years.

I'll keep my eyes open.

Here is at least a few images of some:

If you have the Swedish Registration number it had when it was in Sweden you can find its owner history here:
http://www.svar.ra.se/ and go to the menuchoice "Fordon"

Enter the Registration number and you will get a list of all the transactions in the registry for this vehicle. You can't see the documents but you can order them for a small fee and they will post the copies to you. They have all the records from the very first registration and all owner changes.

From your writing it sound like the car was imported to Scandinavia in the 70's.

There were new '67 Camaros sold in Sweden in 1966-67 by GM Nordic, your speedometer could very well come from one of those cars. The cars sold in Sweden were made in Norwood and they didn't have any extra trimtags. Only difference from the US-sold cars is the 5O (like in five-oh) on the trimtag meaning "Seatbelt Delete". The American seatbelts were not approved in Sweden.

You could try to track your cars history with the car registry, you would be able to find copies of all papers back to when it was imported.

If you need any help with this you could contact me.

Foreign Camaros / Re: Swiss Assembled 1969 Camaro on Carsinbarns.com
« on: December 16, 2012, 07:35:09 AM »
For the overseas assembly plants when they did send them empty bodies there were no hidden VIN's stamped in the bodies, they were blank.
In the European plants they didn't assemble all the Camaros, some special models came from Norwood and they had of course hidden VIN's and American VIN's.

The '68 models built in Antwerp even had a blank VIN-plate in the dash:

The overseas plants had their own VIN-series and also different prefixes. Chassis meant Chassisnumber, that is the term used in Europe for Vehicle Identification Number. It has lived on from the early days of automotive when a car was a chassi and someone else made the bodywork. In some countries it required that the frame got stamped.

You can read more about it here: http://www.camaros.org/foreign.shtml

Yes I have this picture of a '68 that was built in Switzerland, but on this one the lights are removed but you can see how they were mounted. Just right on the lower valance. They used French lamps from Cibie.

This one has a Swiss VIN:

And its Trimtag looks like this:

A little off topic:
There are French Camaros as well, here is a nice 350SS:

You will see the Swiss trimtag on the right fender, it's that bright thing you'll see in one of the pictures.

It should look like this:

And the trimtag from Norwood would look like this:

Those are from a 69 SS350 that ended up here in Sweden. It is restored and painted black.

They were not assembled in Switzerland in 69, just prepared for the Swiss market, they had to have other lights mounted under the bumper since the Swiss rules said that the original parkinglights and turnsignals were to far from the corner of the front.

Here is a 69 KPH Speed of a Camaro in Sweden. Today this car is a Z-clone  >:( No Z/28's were sold new in Europe, at least not in Scandinavia.

Research Topics & Reports / Re: 69 decklid spoiler holes
« on: February 27, 2009, 02:54:00 PM »
I just bought a new trunklid for my car. since it is a ProTouring car I wanted a cooler looking rearwing and I ordered a TransAm wing.

I want to save my present trunklid so I also bought a new repro from OER.

Now to the interesting part for thsi subject.

My Z/28 trunklid, car is a 05C, has the holes in the bracing for the Trans Am Spoiler, the OER trunklid don't.

My Z/28 trunklid has the two sets of holes for the emblem.

Original lid with TransAm spoiler holes in bracing

Repro lid without TransAM holes.
