General Discussion / Re: Legends at MCACN
« on: December 20, 2024, 09:29:34 PM »
Everyone I had talked to like the idea of having the great array of survivor cars and these elite restored cars in the same area to review. One might say the best of two worlds. What might be a good topic relates to judging review of 1st step judging prior to the full blown Legends judging event which is quite extensive.

the originals as Jim showed have extrusion lines from mfg. that the repops do not. Very noticeable IMHO and also keep in mind different years used different screws as Jim's 68 used screws with captured washer vs. 67 using shouldered screws.

General Discussion / Re: Replacement door glass etched dated with logo?
« on: September 27, 2024, 06:10:31 PM »
I've read that the curvature or repro side glass is not correct. May want to get a report on the most recent glass. I have a pile of original window glass that I just can't seem to throw out. Sick of looking at it.
There are places that will buff some imperfections successfully but you're going to burp for it.

Agree, side window glass that I have seen is terrible. Our 68 has the original side window glass in and it was easy to adjust. Our 69 has repro side glass and what a pain. Similar to what Joe did, use your orginal if anyway possiible IMHO.

Our 68 had yellow bults with white gaskets and inside had NO white paint, just the galvanized natural look. And that is how it was restored and even re-used the original gaskets.

A non issue but curious what are the two dates?

That owner can believe what he wants. Hell, I put a 302/290 sticker on the air cleaner of my 6 cylinder. The reactions were priceless.
That is a good one, please post a picture......

Originality / Re: 68z valve covers (The O)
« on: August 28, 2024, 08:43:59 PM »
On our 68Z I had NOS valve covers in the GM boxes that were purchased in 1979 as they came with our car when purchased in 1983 and have chevy dealership receipt. They are on the car but I could not find any "O" stamp on them. I have a picture in my Camaro files of an "O" stamp and it is just barely visible.

General Discussion / Re: Master Cylinder Rust Prevention
« on: August 17, 2024, 03:45:35 PM »
Years ago I purchased from Stahl Headers when Jere was going out of business a NOS brake booster/master cyl. assembly built May, 1968. On the GM build of materials it states master cyl. painted black. I know many state semi-gloss black and surely not disputing since age can have an effect but seems more like a satin black on everything I've ever had the opportunity to review like this one below or one that William posted. I had put this info on my build thread as I ended up using the vacuum valve and master cylinder cover for our restoration.

I guess that's why Instrument Services charge 350.00 to do a sender. Bob's Speedo is 400.00 to 700.00....Joe
Mama Mia Joe, I had no idea as I was lucky enough to buy the GM part # and shortly thereafter they were not available. And I thought the GM part # was expensive at the time LOL.....

Per my build thread as GMAD Van Nuys posted I had mentioned back then years ago GM #3908370 is no longer available.
