The chattering look of the grind out appears exactly the same as the grind out and restamp on my brother's 30k mile survivor 1973 Corvette L82.

I have some 1970 ZR1 grind outs which you would laugh at (just the last letter dished out).
Most of the ZR1's were converted CTU LT1's which already had the larger oil pans.

Seems in 1971 -72  they would gang stamp all but the last suffix letter (especially late in the year) so the engine application could be SET after build up WITHOUT grinding out.

I will say I have fewer issues with the stamp now that the photo is clean and crisp and square.
The Vin Stamp exhibits many of the same characteristics as other early vin stamps at Norwood, characters/spacing.
IMHO the faint stamp looks like the gang was misloaded, it appears there are too few characters.
 Maybe? V9ODZ ?
I can make out the V and the round tops of two numbers before the faint DZ.

I can see the marks on the pad from being ground out with a rotary abrasive wheel.

They run approx in the direction of intake to exhaust

There are NUMEROUS examples of these (grindouts using a rotary tool and either hand or gang stamped) on low mileage never apart Corvettes.

The problem here is because it was decked there are no broach marks ANYWHERE, which makes the whole thing MORE QUESTIONABLE.
If I were writing a report for a customer. I would state that the pad has no broach marks visible and does not represent the typical characteristics of Assembly line deck stamps. I may indicate the appearance of a grind out, however with also being decked determining exactly what has happened very unlikely and would not be able to make a determination whether or not the engine was a DZ from the factory.

there is a reasonably big market for the correct clips, the question is at what price point?
Originals when listed will sell for $100 per clip and it's not like there is an ongoing supply to fill the demand, as they don't last long even at $100.
Is the market 1000 pcs at $20/per clip?
I have spent more than an hour a clip to make them look really good... but still not perfect and will not install like originals.

If you have a 1969 Dealer Album you can have the color chip scanned and have the color mixed...
On 1969 Lemans Blue, tell them to scan - correct the match using the formula (no additional toners) and to drop 20% of the metal flake, the new mixes have too much metal flake in them.  and TELL the jobber to give you some metal flake that will lighten direct - no change on sideshift AND some lighten sideshift and no change direct.
You will probably need to do a few spray outs and work with the metal flake (side shifts etc) in order to make it match near perfect. If you are just painting it and not actually trying to match the 1969 Color for a high end restoration just have it mixed and drop 20% of the metal flake.

The White over White 1969 26k original mile RS SS convertible I found for DAVE BEEM had the top boot still in the original platic bag in the trunk, never opened.

I don't have a problem with a GRIND OUT and gang stamped over the grind out - it's the errant skewed Z which is difficult to explain.

Imagine, Someone STOLE the Race car and transport RIG. WTF.

I went and looked up the story, the rig and the HACKED LOLA were recovered the next day, They literally sawed the engine and gearbox off out of the lola. When the engine and parts were recovered a month later they were trying to install the 5 liter chevy with webbers into a COBRA. 

THE THEFT ENDED Donohue and Penske's run at LEMANS that year.

I just loved the hammering on the fender stretching it for flares, so much work, and how about Donohue saying he was not paid a dime to work only got paid by winning on the track. Roger saying Mark spent 6-8 hours with the car on the chassis plate the day before the race setting everything.
Donohue was into the data... and he was extremely good at interopreting it!
I had always assumed they welded the bulge into the fender.

I started this at the point you begin to see the contruction of the 69 TA car... in the back ground the guy on the right is splitting the fender to hand flare it...
Later it shows him with a hammer and dolly stretching the metal out.
another shot shows the end of the drivers door with the hole for air to go through and cool the rear brakes...

Curious as to why a guy would make a convertible into a coupe? I’ve seen coupes made into convertibles.

It's not. It's two different cars. The convertible is real and the coupe has a fake VIN tag.

the convertible is real, has been owned by a number of different collectors but was probably not registered since 2015.  Rick Hendrick had it from the time Lawrence traded it for a 2015-16 Corvette until 2021? Since then THE REAL SILVER X66 CONVERTIBLE has gone through a couple of auctions and dealers.
The car has aged really well.

10 years ago did A BUNCH of work to the convertible 124679N567808. I sectioned in the dash, the outer wheel houses, trunk drop, and painted the car.
Here is a link to the album of photos when I did the car (2013) for a customer in Charlotte NC. He traded it to Rick Hendrick and Rick had Jerry do a report on the car.
I was pretty well pleased with how it turned out and really pleased when I saw what Jerry had written.
