Mild Modifications / Re: Clutch won't disengage

I meant that I can see markings on the disc that say other things other than "flywheel side".  Anyway, I put in clutch fork #3892632, and that solved my problem!  It now works!  Thanks all for the great information.

Yes I can see the markings on the disc.  I have decided that I am going to try the GM fork(3892632) which is shorter and more angler.

Thanks

The clutch disc is in the right way (marked flywheel side), and centered.  I wonder if the fork is right.  Mine is the 14066235, but somebody mentioned the 3892632 is the one I need.  Who knows??

I used the correct dia. alignment tool to center everything.  I did not grind any gears when I was done with the install because I noticed right away that when I pushed in the clutch to start it, it didn't disengage and it was going to start in gear.  So I tried rocking the car with my foot on the clutch and the engine not running.  I then knew something was amiss.

I have now taken the tranny back out, and looking at how the throwout bearing is working when someone presses on the clutch.  I am just about out of rod length and I am getting the right pedal free play, but the clutch fingers seem to move about 1/4 inch.  That does not seem to be enough.  How far should the fingers flex??  Maybe I have the wrong rod??  I purchased a SB Z-bar settup but I installed a 621 bellhousing.  Maybe I need the BB setup????

Thanks
Jon

I have lots of freeplay in the pedal when I adjust the rod that way, and none when I adjusted the rod the other way.  And I called zoom and they say the throwout bearing should be 1 1/4" long , which mine is.

Mild Modifications / Clutch won't disengage

I'm converting from a PG to a Muncie.  I put it all together, lowered the car, and found out the clutch won't disengage.  I put in a Zoom clutch that has the raised fingers if that matters.  I torqued the pressure plate to 20 lbs.  Should I torque it to 35lbs?  Do I have the right throwout bearing in?  Any suggestions?

thanks

Well, I went to NAPA and asked for a '69 350 Corvette starter.  And, it works!  Thanks all for your input.

Mild Modifications / Starter for 621 Bellhousing

I am changing my '67, 327 from a auto. trans. to a Muncie.  I am installing a 14" flywheel with a 621 Bellhousing.  My question is what starter do I need for this conversion? I am getting a lot of misinformation about this.  It seems the new starter must be of a short snout kind because that big flywheel is right there!  My original starter has the straight bolt pattern.

I am slowly getting the job done.  Last week I dropped the PG out, of course the crossmember hung it up, but when it did come free, it fell off my jack and started emptying its fluid on my floor.  Today I am spending a few hours on getting the AT bracket off the frame, of course, the nut like fasteners on the inside of the frame are spinning around and around.
My rear end I am sure is quite tall, and that will be dealt with all in good time and money.  I found my Muncie on Craigslist last spring and it came with a Hurst competition plus shifter.
I am doing the job for the fun of it and saving a pile of money I would think.  Oh, and today I just ordered my Zoom clutch set-up.  I am sourcing a lot of this stuff from NAPA.  It's cheaper then most of the Camaro vendors, and generally, there is no shipping costs.

Thanks all, for the information.  I will be calling on one of the Camaro parts outfits to make sure I get it right.

How can I tell what starter I have so I can get the right flywheel?

I am swapping out my PG transmission on my '67 327, 210 hp, to a Muncie 4-speed.  I bought a 621 (big block) bellhousing for this conversion.  I believe I must buy a 11 inch flywheel and clutch set-up.  My question is: there are different number of teeth flywheels out there, does it matter which one I buy?  Also, I may eventually buy a small block crate engine for this car.
