Maintenance / Re: rear end noise from my 69 z
« on: August 20, 2012, 03:13:10 PM »
I have a similar issue with my 67 12 bolt posi after a local (Michigan - East Side) shop set did a service on it. Clutch pack preload is too tight and it chirps on turns.

Can anyone recommend a good-reliable 12 bolt posi mechanic around the Novi, MI area? I do not want to drive the car 40 miles across town for a repair - also, do not want to leave it overnight somewhere (I used to work in a shop - too many horrible stories with classic cars getting damaged).  Yep, lots of constraints, maybe someone has a recommendation??

Thanks!

General Discussion / Re: BJ Auction - 67 RS went for $80k
« on: January 20, 2012, 04:55:04 PM »
Ok everybody - here is your big chance. I'll sell my 1967 Camaro SS350 Convert (Butternut Yellow/Black Int-Top), with a numbers matching PT (3 spd manual), 70k original miles, power disc brakes, wood wheel, fold down rear seat, 4-ply redstripes, restored to original condiition, same owner since 1979 - for $75k OTD, no 10% buyer fees here.

Sounds like a bargain compared to this one!!!

(I was thinking the 67 RS Conv was around a $30-35k car at best, right??)

General Discussion / BJ Auction - 67 RS went for $80k
« on: January 19, 2012, 04:09:02 PM »
Did you see the '67 RS Convertible (Butternut Yellow) that went for $80k last night? I don't think it even had the original 327 engine. I understand the BJ effect on prices, but $80k for this car???

I have not paid much attention to Camaro prices in the last few years - do I need to go to the garage and give my neglected '67 a big hug??

Maintenance / Re: Engine missing at all RPM levels
« on: October 21, 2011, 03:35:45 PM »
I just went through the same problem on my 67 SS350. It started out as a random misfiring at idle and a backfiring problem under WOT. Eventually, deteriorated to not being able to start it at all.  Given the backfiring problem under load, I was thinking ignition. I checked a few plugs, was getting spark, so I decided to go through the carb too. No change.  I was thinkiing that the points/condensor - although old (12 years +, 1000 miles) should be ok, right? Never heard of a condensor going bad.

After letting the car sit for most of this summer (just didn't feel like working on it - too busy), I finally bought a set of points/condensor/rotor, took 5 minutes to install them, and the engine fired right up. Runs great now, all issues resolved.  Oh well, carb freshening didn't hurt as the car does not get much use. I feel a bit silly for letting the car sit idle all summer for such a simple problem.  Now - trying to get as many drives in as possible before the Michigan winter arrives!

General Discussion / Al Maynard
« on: September 13, 2011, 03:38:34 PM »
I saw that Al Maynard passed away recently.  I imagine that many folks on this site may have crossed paths with him??

Many years ago, I needed a date match set of heads for my 1967 350 Camaro. I do not recall how I received his name, but I was blown away by the stuff he had at his house. I told him the date codes that I needed, and he took me out back to one of several sheds packed with old parts. I remember the heads were all organized on shelves - he was able to go right to the exact heads that I needed - plus, I had him rebuild them for me. He was really nice to me, showing me around his sheds and house. His knowledge, collection of cars, engines, transmissions, parts was incredible. I could have spent a week there looking at everything!!

General Discussion / Re: What happened to THE PADDOCK?

I wonder how any of the vendors stay in business (even before the economy troubles). There are a fixed number of cars out there, and now, given the economy, many folks are spending what money they have left on food/rent instead of an $8.00 starter motor bolt with the correct head marking on it.

I bought my Camaro in Oct 1979 and paid $1600 for it. I bought it while away at college and my dad blew a gasket when I told him about it!! He thought that I was crazy for spending that much money on an 'old car'. Sadly, he passed away before having a chance to see the car after I did a ground up resto on it.

I can't think of anything else that I have owned for 30 years!!!!

Restoration / Re: Rear Springs

I had Eaton re-arch the mono-leafs on my '67. No problems with ride heights or sag (had them arched around 10 years ago).

If you have the $$$$, take a look at a 2010 Shelby (I work at SVT). That car is HOT!!!

Just looked at a new Camaro SS here at work (Ford). As an owner of a 67 SS (since 1979 - longtime Camaro fan) - I would buy the Mustang over this (not because I work for Ford).

As soon as I saw the stacks of wheelweights stuck on the front calipers (I assume to resolve an NVH issue), had to laugh and think how this must reinforce the opinions of most folks who would not care if GM died. As an engineer, we would get laughed out of here (fired) for proposing such a solution!!

I had the same problem with a replacement water pump (alternator alignment was fine). I took the pump apart and used a hyd press to move the pully hub an 1/8' or so.

General Discussion / Repro Delco R-59 Battery - Best Place to Buy??
« on: February 03, 2007, 05:05:08 PM »
My repro Delco battery finally died after 8 years (I never thought it would last that long!).  I called NPD, where I purchased the last one and they do not carry them anymore because of too many issues.

Can anyone recommend a place to buy them now (any vendors in Michigan??)??  Are there different companies making them?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

General Discussion / 1967-1969 Camaro Original Trunklid Value?
« on: December 19, 2006, 01:28:41 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the going rate might be for a first gen trunklid - original, exc condition (no rust in the seams, no filler) with spoiler holes???

I have checked ebay/hemmings and have not found anything comparable to use as a guide.

Thanks for any help offered.

General Discussion / Re: Pilot Bushing Installation Depth??

I start drooling when I see a '32 (I prefer a 3 window) ... 3" chop, flat black and the meanest/loudest engine/exhaust.... the only problem is I would have to sell the Camaro to fund the hot rod, and the Camaro has been part of me for 27 years now.

Too many hot cars, not enough cash!
