Her68His69,
I hope this info is helpful in your search, but I believe the screw-on oil filters '68 and up should "screw on" between the 230/250 sixes and the small block/big blocks - only difference is lengths, drainback valve, filtering, etc, which is important too.  When I was digging up the info on that old 230 I have from my first '69 Camaro, I noticed it still has a Fram PH30 that I must've put on over 35 years ago.  And the PH30 lists for the small block Chevys for some applications.  And I have big blocks/small blocks with the same filters - used to use AC Delco PF 35 (may be an old part# now) and now use mainly K&N.  Small blocks and big blocks have the filter vertical of course and the inline 6 sits at a bit of an angle.  But it may be easier to find a good filter that fits a 350 or 454 with the drainback valve (if that's what you want - I prefer one, don't think it hurts anything to have it), it should fit your inline 6.  Of course look at the length dimensions and make sure no interference or whatever, and check whatever other criteria are important to you.  So if I'm not right about this, please someone correct me, but I believe the inline 6/SBC/BBC all have same thread and filter base diameter.  Might be easier to find one that will work for you knowing that.

Originality / Re: Oil Fill Cap on my 250 Six Cylinder
« on: October 19, 2023, 12:06:32 AM »
My first 69 was a 230 (I posted about the head casting number in the 6 cylinder forum and noticed you did also about your car) - My aunt bought it new in 1969 - VIN#545064. I totalled the car in 1988 but still have alot of old docs, including protect-o-plate but never documented the trim tag.  Guess it was probably close to your November 68 car build though.  I remember it had the second style plain steel oil cap, not the tall first version.  Not a guarantee but doubt the oil cap had been changed by 1988, and I remember it was fairly worn meaning alot of the orange paint was either gone or it just had a plain steel finish but it definitely didn't have any marks or labels that I remember at the time I had it.  I have the whole engine still except I must have lost the valve cover over the years unfortunately.  Hope that helps.
Edit- I also think the tall "breather" vent cap would be used on applications without a PCV valve, which by 69 I think PCV would have been required for emissions (and then you would have a non-vented short plain oil cap) in most if not all applications.  I'm pretty sure mine had a PCV valve and I can see the PCV valve in your pic near the rear of your valve cover, so wouldn't think it would be the tall "breather cap" with vent holes in the bottom side (if that's what that tall one is), but should be the short one.

6-cylinder Camaros / Re: L6 cylinder head data for a new report

Bryon (bcmiller) - I got the casting date of my head posted about earlier on 10/09, it is K 9 8.  So block was K 11 8 and stamp on pad is F1112AN. So head was cast Saturday Nov. 9, 1968, block was cast Monday Nov. 11, 1968, and engine was built Tuesday, Nov 12, 1968.  Amazing to me that parts moved that fast but I've never studied it that closely before!  Sure many have seen similar.  I do have a matching numbers 1971 Nova I'm going to check out the casting dates of 350 block vs heads vs pad stamp vs TH350 vs vehicle VIN...

Yes, I did happen to get a pic yesterday of the 7763 on outside of head - think it was on left side, then didn't see anything in the next spot (center) then on the right it had 41F 5060. here are pics left to right (obviously on the side of head w/o intake/exhaust):

ok thanks, the casting date is probably near this "763" I took a pic of yesterday, I'll get back over to the building where it's stored in a week or so and look closer and get that.  Also here's pics of the 'AN' (appears upside down when engine in normal position).

Casting: 3927763.  I guess I don't know where to look for casting date on heads - kind of dirty from sitting for 35 years.  Car was 1969 model totaled in 1988 still have 230 engine.  VIN 123379N545064.  Engine pad does not have VIN # only the assembly date/eng code part is stamped.  Have protect-O-Plate, my aunt bought car new in 1969 and I was second /owner.  Car was Torque Drive 2-speed auto (Powerglide without the modulator) had to shift from 1-2 and 2-1 on column manually - engine coded 'F1112AN' and has yellow AN written on rear of block.  Block casting number 3921968, date K 11 68.

Yeah car looks nice, would like to see it top up too.  Mine was also 717 Blue Std Interior but has been changed to black/white houndstooth deluxe.  RS/SS clone, probably a 327 210hp 3 speed originally.  Power top seems to be original.

The Teal Blue (code L on trim tag) is interesting. I have a 68 hardtop since 2004 which was originally that color but it was gold when I got it.  I had found a small area under the cowl that still had the original paint and I really liked the color.  I did a repaint in about 2009 but since the dash, underood/etc was already gold I just had it reshot gold.  I had really considered going back original color though.  Then in Feb of this year I got a 68 convertible which is red with a black top but it is an original L4 paint code car, Teal Blue with a blue conv top.  I really think that would have been a neat combo.  Both cars have been changed alot and are little like their original build, which makes me appreciate the original stuff even more.  To finally get to both your points, it is kind of hard to find many pics of what Teal Blue looks like...thanks

Hi Bolero Red,
Looks like Kurt may have you running it down, but I am curious.  I'm in Birmingham and graduated HS in 88 Hewitt Trussville. Wonder what part of AL you are/were in.  Wonder if you were near here and if anyone I know remembers the car because there wouldn't have been many, if any like that.  Shoot me an email if you want to take it to email - N633993@aol.com. thanks

General Discussion / Re: Fold down rear seat question
« on: June 22, 2021, 01:07:23 AM »
I had never noticed before but my 68 fold down is missing one of the caps.  Not sure why its missing since its attached with a screw and all the other screws holding the bar and the other cap are there and tight.  Quick searches of fold downs are proving the price of these assemblies has really gone up (like everything else) - I bought a complete fold down (fair condition) at Talladega Speedway (they used to have some small parts/swap meet out there) probably 8 years ago for $200.  That one got sold away with another car...I'll keep looking but if anybody finds a good source I would like to fix this one up right and I'll do the same. thanks

General Discussion / Re: 69 Big Block Power Steering Hoses
« on: June 22, 2021, 12:47:05 AM »
I have never owned an original big block Camaro but the ones I have converted I changed the engine mounts out and run the pwr steering hoses through the mount like this - I know its not at all factory correct but it has always kept them protected from exhaust or suspension parts.   I snipped from the above image to illustrate

This is interesting.  My first car was a '69 230 with a Torque Drive.  It was purchased new by my aunt and I bought it from her when I turned 16 in 1986.  It was liquid cooled with the lines to the trans - I'm not 100% sure it was never replaced by my aunt but I didn't think it had.  I still have the "AN" coded 6-cylinder engine (maybe 112,000 miles when I pulled it?) and the VIN# was 545064 which was fairly early in the model year. I have the protect-O-plate still and the original bill of sale for the car.  I put a 350 in it in 1988 and unfortunately totaled it a couple of months later.  Being a broke college kid I just put a $600 stock 350 and kept the Torque Drive with I guess the 3.08 10 bolt.  It definitely had the same shift markings on the indicator saying "Torque Drive" and "HI" and "1st" I remember that.  Everybody made fun of the fact I had to put it in first at a stop light then bump it into HI.
