A friend asked me about this stamp on a Nova. With the heavy sandpaper usage, I think it looks ok, but not enough to advise him. Thoughts?

Finally made it with the Tin Soldier.
I've been talking with Jason Terrell, the son of Ron Terrell who was the original owner of the Tin Soldier COPO.
Jason is a super cool guy and was conveying how tore up his Dad was when the TS was found and sold before they could buy it back, more so when they found out what it is worth. He said Ron always regretted selling that car in the mid 80's and buying a new Camaro to campaign.
Ron still races today, in his 70's, and still runs the second "Tin Soldier II" an 85 Camaro. Jason also has a 3rd gen Camaro that he campaigns as "Tin Soldier III.
We have hatched a plan to get Ron some time with Tin Soldier at the Camaro Nationals (Ron's not on the internet, so I am safe discussing this!). Holley is one of Jason's sponsors and we are weaving a story about how Holley wants Jason's car at the Nationals for a shoot. This will get Ron out there without raising his suspicions. Jason's mom is in on the deal, and she has been quietly gathering some of the era memento's and pics from Tin Soldiers campaigns.
One pic Jason told me about is Ron is about to make a run down the strip, has an open face helmet on, tank top, and his handing his mom a beer to hold through the window as he is taking the line!

What about the hood spring trick? Did'nt the SS's have 28 vs non ss 26 coils?

Yes, we know about Joel. He was paid the fee, and would not give a written letter either way (yes or no) all we got for the fee was a verbal "maybe". This was previous to the NICB report. I would have been ok with a no letter, but he refused and still refuses to put in writing either way (or even put the maybe in writing).
Now that I know for sure the car was intended to be delivered to Curry, it is probably a day 2 or Curry brought to Motion car. Not to hijack the thread. Jerry's looked at the car and certified it for the X66D80 portion and some of the cool items on it. Ill post more when it's done.
Back to NICB, I was excited to have gotten as far as I did. If anyone takes a crack at it I would be more than happy to share the contacts that I made as well as the carfax contacts I had at that time (a few years ago).
Initially, car fax was very interested as this fit well into their business model. Once NICB sent a cease and desist order though, everyone got real interested in letting this drop.

Not that i know of. Only a leo that is in traffic, and a supervisor at that. Like has been been said, they have to enter a case number as well.
What was crazy for me was that my car was actually stolen at one time!
We thought mine might have been a baldwin motion, it came back as curry chevrolet not far from motion. So, they do help in that regard.
Its actually a 3rd party, iso, that runs the computer database mining for nicb, they are the ones that we "almost" had access via their agreement with nicb, bringing in carfax as a partner. My computer company was going to write the app between iso and carfax. Once nicb got wind of the complaint, they quickly put the kabash on iso, who then cut off the deal with carfax.
When i get a min ill post the info to iso in case someone in the future can make something happen.

Mine was blank on that line. Bummer. Would be awesome info to get. Really wish someone would be able to make this happen, but as has been said, it looks like they are not only not interested, but openly hostile to the idea of releasing this information.

I have gotten an nicb, and the print out as well. I had a copy up for reference, and almost had a deal done with car fax and the agency that runs that portion of nicb. I was even to the point of working with them to set pricing and made the mistake of posting on a car site for opinions on pricing (not this site) and the nicb actually got a call complaining.
They shut me and the carfax deal down quicker than you can blink.
The cop did indeed get in trouble.
Fwiw, not only does my paperwork detail delivering dealer, there is also a horsepower line on the form!

I have a 70 Camaro L78 with only 44k original miles on it. Cert by JM, still has most of the original fuses in the box, original headlights and even the upper radiator hose is the original. I did have to repaint it, but it still has almost all other original components,

Wow. I have an LM1 Vert with the original 3 speed muncie as well. Also, there was just one on ebay (non vert)

but the guy did'nt know anything about LM1's or why it had a 3 speed muncie. I emailed him and gave him some info on what the HQ suffix was.
I also had an olympic gold LM1 a while back with the 3 speed muncie. Have'nt seen so many 3 speed muncies around at one time.....

I finally got started on a 69 X66D80 I've had for a while, and just saw that it had six leaf springs. Not sure if these are original or just some hack add on over the years. The car was originally sold out of Curry Chevrolet on Long Island and had some motion add on's. It is also a "radio delete" no radio ordered car.
Anyone tell if these are add on's or original 6 leaf springs?

I don't think there are many cars that are selling for what they cost to restore these days.
Of course, I am partial to the LM1's
If you are in it for the money these days, then you will probably regret it in the long run.
If it's your dream car, then build it like what you always wanted. If it has to be sold later and you do well, then that's a plus. If not, then you can just keep it.

Originality / Re: L-65 vs LM-1

The LM1 and SS350 (L48) both had the exact same air cleaner setup, with the chrome lid. As far as the LM1 vs the L65, the L65 was setup for a 2bbl carb and no chrome lid. Not sure of any other differences? Possibly someone else might know more.
