Restoration / Tracking down electical issue
« on: February 01, 2025, 12:34:22 PM »
I just bought a 67 Camaro SS-350 that has a frame off resto completed a few months ago. The car looks amazing! Every bolt and wiring harness was replaced new. But I have several electrical issues I am working out that it seems they never finished or have wrong. The car was converted to a SS-396 Clone with a 454, and a console with the gauge package was added, also tach in the dash pod.. Car was originally a 4speed on the floor. with no console or gauges.

 1. The RED FUEL light in Dash Pod is always on even with a full tank, the fuel gauge in the Console Gauge Pod works correct.
 2. The Tach is not working but is hooked up to the HEI Tach cap port
 3. Temp gauge in the Console Gauge Pod is not working, but is hooked up to the temp sensor on the DRV side of the block.
 4. Battery Gauge in the Console Gauges does not work.
5, Oil Pressure gauge does work.

Now I am really confused. I ran the VIN on one of the VIN reports websites and it came back as 1967 Camaro SS 396Yet it has a 4P  on the tag and only very early 396s had a 4P.

Originality / 1967 SS 396 Correct Brackets Numbers
« on: January 25, 2025, 01:32:42 AM »
I just purchased a 1967 SS (4P) that is built as a 325HP/396The current engine in the car ( Arrive next week) is an unknown 454 dressed as a 396. The brackets are later model brackets. I want for the engine bay to look correct at least for the cloned 325HP, maybe even a 375HP. For either I want the correct early brackets that I believe used the short water pump?. The car has factory power steering. DOes anyone have a list of what pullys and brackets need to be collected, and will they work with the 454 as they did on the 396? Im not much on BBs, more of a SB guy for last 40 years.
Next would be finding the correct heads, intake, carb for the correct look. Again not a Big Block guru so researching a lot so I dont "break" something.

Decoding/Numbers / Decoding my New 1967 SS

I just purchased my 2nd 1967 Camaro. She is on transport on the way to Texas and be here hopefully end of next week, weather permitting. My first was a basket case I drove with a hope and a prayer I could get out of the driveway every time I started it up 35 years ago, but it was mine! Today I closed the deal from an online dealer after 5 months of going back and forth weeding through fake website, Facebook market scams, and seeing cars that were nowhere close to being a original 67 any longer.. It has about 95% of what I tried to restore my first 67 and a divorce got in the way and was sold.
My mother had a 67-SS350 butternut yellow when I was about 5 years old and all I have is a single color Polaroid of me hanging out the window. I always wanted to build the 67 Camaro I could never afford or find in my 20s with my 1st car. The one I just bought came pretty close and already done. A few things are not correct, and it's my hope to replace with correct dated parts. I was just sent a picture of the Cowl Tag as is as follows.

Born As Follows..
Build Date : 05C May 3 week Norwood67-12437
Trim : 717-Z : Marina Blue w/Standard A50 Strato Bucket seatsF-FW : TINTED W/S   ONLY2L : 4-SPEED FLR SHIFT3K : EXT MOLDG GROUP4P : SS-350 ( To late of a build date to be a 396 built under a 4P code)
5Y : BELTS ALL DELUXE-------What I can see from over 150 images and 2 videos.Told it was a frame off Restoration a few years ago.
SS badging with 396 Fender Flags and an unknown 454/Q-jet for an engine. (SS-396/325HP Clone)
Engine Assy brackets with HEI and brackets are later style with the ALT on the DRV side not PASS side. (plan to change for appearance sake)
Everything required for the SB to BB swap was done with correct items. Heater box, cross member, etc etc
In Dash Tac is not correct. Has a 5K red line not correct for 350 or 396 EnginesHas center console with Gauge pack. All work
4Speed, unknown if M20 or M21 will see when it arrives.12 Bolt with 2nd style Square Radius Rod (Gear Ratio/Posi?)Factory 14" Painted wheels with hubcaps ( will change to correct Rally Wheels)Power steeringManual Disc brakes
Sold my 08 Corvette to fund this new toy and at least now I can work on a car without requiring a computer and special tools.
Look forward to relearning the Camaro and having fun working on a car again.
