General Discussion / Re: Replacement aluminum radiator
« on: July 15, 2024, 12:06:04 PM »
I installed on my 1969 Camaro 427 BB a radiator from Northern Radiator.

https://www.northernradiator.com/AUTOMOTIVE_-_LIGHT_TRUCK/CHEVROLET/CAMARO/1969/205184

Also purchased the optional Shroud clips which fit well with the OEM fan Shroud. Painted it black and looks original. There is a gap between  the shroud and radiator as the Northern Radiator is not as deep as the OEM 4 row radiator, but the Northern has the long tube core and I have the console gauges and the temperature runs about 1-2 tick above the 1/4 mark and never exceeds the 1/2 way mark.

Best price I got was from Amazon.

General Discussion / Alternator Wiring
« on: January 31, 2024, 08:28:06 PM »
Gentlemen, Ladies, and wiring experts, I'm Confuse and need advice.
Am replacing the Alternator 2 wire connector that goes between the alternator and the external voltage regulator.
Looking from the rear of the alternator, cast into the case is an (R) on the left and an (F) on the right.
Looking at the 1969 Camaro assembly manual the wiring diagram show that the (Dark Blue Wire) is the going from the regulator (F) terminal to the (R) on the alternator and the (white) wire is going from the regulator terminal #2 to the (F) on the alternator.
Am I correct and stating this is wrong and is backwards. Attached picture.

The second attached picture is confirming that the (F) on the regulator goes to (F) on the alternator (Dark Blue Wire) and the regulator terminal #2 (white  wire) goes to the (R) terminal on the Alternator. Correct

I purchased a new connector and the (Dark Blue wire) and the (White wire) are reversed and look to follow the assembly manual can I assume all I have to do is reverse the two wires making it correct?
Thanks
Bob

Thanks William!
So it comes down to preference??Well Ok, but why is the non-hook 0.040 thicker than the hook unit. I guess I'm concerned that the the hooked units folks are trying to be peddled today at 0.062 are not original?  Would love to get a member with an original hook fan of early production (before May 69) to get me a metal thickness. This will help all of us wanting to use original parts if available.
Thanks

William, Thanks for the picture.
I was sure it was plated silver, but have seen a few in black.
Now that brings up the question, the picture I assume is a 1969 production Z/28? I tried to zoom in but it looks like the fan is not shark toothed. It looks like the one I have as a spare and it thickness measure 0.100 and the one I have that is sharked tooth is only 0.062.
Confused?
Thanks

Hello All:
Cold winter days working on the car, today doing some detailing and have a few questions. What is the color of the factory Alternator fan?
The other question is when I purchased the car it had an extra Alternator a 1100834 dated 9B22 with a regular fan (not hooked) I measured it and it is 0.100 thick. The one on the car with a 1100837 dated 9B4 has a hook fan and it measures 0.062 so I'm thinking the
 fan is a repo?
Any thoughts? Thank you in advance for your help!

I just checked my 69 NOR 02D and it has a push in bumper. Looks to be original as it looks like its 55 years old.

I also have a 69 X33 without the original motor. It has in it now a 69 427/425 L72. I am always looking in the orphan section for it's missing engine, but like most they probably put the rod through the block 50 years ago. If I was able to find the original block purchase it I don't think I would install it. I can't tell you how much I enjoy this car driving it and tinkering. As for the value, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay.
