General Discussion / L89 Owners
« on: March 04, 2025, 03:24:26 PM »
Not sure if this is where I need to make this request! But I was wondering how many L89 owners we have in CRG. And if any, would ya be willing to help start a registry. I have begun a self registry, and have about 60 to 65, but cannot validate all. Could use a little help on some type of format, also. I know there are a lot of these cars in private collections, and would be very hard to get any info for a registry, but maybe someone here can help with this. Thanks ya.

Outstanding “Z” first and foremost, but the color combo, unreal. Though mine’s is a BB SS, the bodies are kindred, 02D build dates. Great job SuperLuxfords, great car, know you are pleased with this beauty.

How about DZ on Marketplace body 9N704502. Suffix V10_ _DZ looks good, and partial hard to see, but is there. Encouraging to see body 19N704171, can hopefully re-unite with it’s numbered DZ.

This is all right. Now if I was younger and had about 10 more years with my car, I would do this, but the console would have be acceptable to my gauges. May have to show these pics to my son, the next owner of the car. He has had quite a few 5th Gens and 1 ZL-1. Lol, I also had 1 5th Gen, but had to let it go to restore the 69. So sdkar, as a longtime owner of a 69’, kudo’s Sir.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 396 cars - coupe vs convertible production numbers
« on: January 12, 2025, 07:01:57 PM »
This is great for us 396 owners, especially the L78 coupe owners. Now the question I have is the 311 L89 cars, does anybody here know of a registry source or any owners of L89’s in the CRG? I again feel like I have a L89 car based on possible find of what I thought was my original 396 with a very strange suffix code to me at the time, mid 90’s. Later publication confirmed that suffix code indeed was for a 69’ Camaro L78/89. Then I found original owner who remembered that it was not an alloy head, but then he shared what he paid for car, how about north a ways of 5000.00! Guess I just need to try and find that engine again. But the suffix code(burned in my memory) our Kurt has already says no know production car with this coded L89. Thanks, if anybody can help.

Originality / Re: 1969 XT wheels

Kelly I know this is not a good picture to try and pull up numbers placement, but I think you can see the K-1-9 and the 1 left side of stem and the 30 on right of stem. And of course the XT.

Kelly, if I understand correctly if your XT’s are all K-1-8 then that tells me yes that is Kelsey Hayes- Chevrolet(1)- 1968(8) and the 12 could for sure be Dec 68’ as the month. Now I will have to go look at my dates to see if my 1’s or on the left side of the stem and the 29 is on the right side of stem. I know there should be a wheels section on here(CRG), lol, maybe some more seasoned member here can steer you to this section. I am rather new to this also, but an aged person with a longtime ownership of my L78. Merry Christmas!

Kelly can you tell me the date on the wheels? Lost 2 of mines in early 70’s to numerous wheel an tire changes. My 3 is dated K-1-9, 1-29-69 (1) and 1-31-69 (2) for my 02D build SS 396 L78. Thanks

Absolutely stunning restoration of the Gilmore 68’ “Z”. And the cataloging of the the resto, stunning also. Great source of info, example the bumper jack assy restoration and the paint source. Think I will redo my 69’ jack assy. Thanks.

Will this do, can clean it up some or retake a photo. Know you say have the 69’s covered, but this is my 52 year owned “JEWEL”, purchased 1972, my 1st car, secured on my HS graduation evening. May 26, 1972. Thanks.

Great find ssl78. Would love to find mines, but I’m looking for a 69’ El Camino that received my thought of original  L78, lol, we talking back in 1973. If you ever find another, and VIN starts 604, keep me in mind. Thought I found 1 back in the mid 90’s, but very strange suffix to me, at the time, did not know suffix’s that started with a “K” as I was looking for a JH. Sadly I let it go, and now that I’m familiar with anything that starts with a “K”. Wow, learned the “K” codes about 2010, and my car’s original owner telling me what he paid for my SS new, has me desiring it to be 1 of 311. Is this an engine you might consider selling? Thanks.
