Decoding/Numbers / 1969 Production Numbers
« on: October 17, 2020, 12:20:32 PM »
I have a '69 SS L48 (350/300) with VIN ending in 690228 and an X11 code on the trim tag.

Trying to figure out how many were built.  I know that total Camaro production for that year was 243,085.  I followed some of CRG's deciphering and figured out that 187,185 out of that total were non-SS cars.  From there, CRG walks you through what percent of the remaining 55,910 were Super Sports with X11 code.

Well, I managed to get myself totally confused with 9% of this and 5% of that and couldn't quite come up with a number!  If there any scientists out there that can help interpret this stuff (someone from CRG, perhaps?), I'd appreciate it!

Here's what I found in CRG literature:

So, how many cars were coded X11?
Some quick math yields that 77% of 1969 Camaros were non-SS and non-Z28. After Dec 68, these cars would be coded X11 and X44. Multiplying the that percentage with the percentage of cars that had style trim or RS (58%) yields a little more than 44% of X-coded 69's were non-SS X11's. A similar calculation on the SS350 (9% of 69's) production quantity yield that less than half would be X55, the balance would be X11, about 5%. Adding these totals together shows the total of X11-coded cars to be approximately 50% of all 1969 X-codes. The corollary is that only about one in ten of X11-coded cars are actually SS350's.

Restoration / SS 350 Rebuild
« on: September 08, 2020, 11:48:40 AM »
Timing chain gear teeth busted and I have to rebuild the motor.  Numbers matching car so a crate engine is not an option.

Would prefer to keep it as close to stock as possible but, while it's apart I thought I'd go for a little sexier cam along with roller rockers and lifters.

Thoughts/comments would be appreciated!

Restoration / Dash Vents / Diffusers for Astro Ventilation - 1969
« on: September 08, 2020, 11:43:39 AM »
Any tips for replacing both the driver and passenger side dash vents on a 1969?  Later models have some tabs that make for easy removal from the front.  Looks like 69s are screwed in somehow from behind the dash.

Seems they should pop out from the front, no???

Thanks!!!
