General Discussion / Re: My car made Motortrend/HotRod

Good luck with your restoration!  :)

In 1974, I bought an all -original '68 Z28 in the same colors (for $1000)... drove regularly and worked on it until 1976 when I traded it for the '69 Z28/RS that I still have today.   That '68 ran like a scalded dog!  but would jump out of 4th gear when I let off on it at speed... :)

Thank you. I know  the 68 used a Muncie shifter and they were junk. When the car was found it had a Hurst Shifter, and a Sun Tach in it. I got a new chrome cup for the tachometer,  and done got the Hurst shifer restored.  I hope to send the Tach out and have it check before it is back in the car. My 1st car was a UU code SS 68, and I always wanted a Z28 like it. Was never a big fan of the 69.

Replacing original Z28 intake/carb with a crossram generally means you want your Z28 (to look at).. rather than to drive...  but DRIVING a 'stockish' Z28 is so much fun!

Not all true. I am restoring my car to drive. I may take it to a few small car shows here around the Oklahoma area, but but I am not doing it for a car show only car. The one listed above  and the one you posted are the same cars. I know Paul's car is a show winner but I do know he drives it.   Now I am not going to lie, you are right. Driving a stock 68Z is fun. I have not got to do that in many years but it was a fun car I was in.

Now the reason I want a crossram is cause of my father. He is a big 56 Chevy guy and he done a few with a 2X4 set up and he loves it.  He is the one that helped me get my 68Z  and I thought the best way to honor him would be with the crossram.  Maybe I am crazy for restoring a driver with some of the baddest parts that was made by Chevy in the late 60's,  but its my dream car and I will not let anyone stand in my way.

If any over you are on Facebook Camaro pages,  I am sure you saw it.  But I thought I would post it here as well. The car made it cause the way it was found and I am working on it and one day hope to have it done as it should be.

I been getting a lot of comments saying it's not worth doing, or I should re-body the car but I am not going to do that. This is my dream car and it will get done the way it should be done.  I do not need to hear I will have more money in it then its worth when I am done. But it's not about the money. It's fir the love of this beautiful classic.

This is my 68Z Mountain find.

I started reading this post and I was going to say talk to Paul. I know he done it on 2 different 68 Z.  But as I was reading I see he done posted his beautiful car. It's a freaking tank. I know I am  going to set mine up as close as I can like Paul's 68Z.  Then only difference is mine will be getting a full restore job (way to far gone to even think about a survivor) then I will be doing a few re-pop parts like the headers,  linkage and some other hard to find parts. Then I will NOT be running the cowl plenum air cleaner.

As Paul said, the carbs need to be worked over for the streets. I would call Jarrod Wilkom with Allstate Carburetor.  I would also talk with Wayne Guinn with Guinn Engineering about the cam.

It also depends on what Holleys you are running.  You got the 4210's they are not the best to run, but then can be worked over good for street use.  Then you got the 3 digit date code 4295, the 4295 service carbs, and the 4295 re issued carbs. I read that the re issued are the best to run but getting harder to find.

Tom Cudeyro is also a well knowledgeable person when it comes to this as well.

Wish you the best if luck. Please keep us updated on what happens with it.

Thanks guys. I know when I found this Xram,  I had to have it.  It is dated one month before my car. Now I got to find the Holleys to put on it. Lol

I know I am late to the game, I just thought I would share a few pictures of my 68 Blip Top.  This puppy has been verified,  and documented by Wayne Guinn.

not 100%sure  but it looks like CE0 if I am right it was 1970.  The rest I just dont know.

My CE block in my 68Z  is CE9B  9 for 69, and I read  the B was for short block.

Originality / GM 3941140 List 4210 1968 Z28 Holley for the crossram
« on: August 21, 2020, 09:21:41 AM »
I been trying to find information on this 4210 holley I just bought,  and not a lot of information I can find.  I emailed Jerry Macneish a few times but I hate bugging him as I know he can be a busy person.  But so far is he had been very helpful.

I found a 4210 holley and once I got it home, i started questioning this carb. I thought all crossram carbs were double pumpers,  and without choke on them.  This one had the right numbers from what i could find with the 3941140 and List being 4210. Not so happy with the date code. It's dated 932  as I been told its a service carb, but still a 4210.

Before I got it home I sent pictures to a few friends and they all thought that some added the vacuum secondary  to it. As Jerry said that was made before the double pumpers came out.  Now I did not ask him about the choke that is on it.  And I would like to know what are the correct metering blocks for it.

I found one guy say his blocks on his 4210 is front-4743 and back is 5806.

The one I just picked up is front- 5271 and back-5806 loke the other one I seen online.   Now I would love to find a 68 inake, and the twin for this one, but i know it will be out of my reach.

But I would love to have information on this one. As far as i can tell, the blows and blocks are the ones that came with this factory,  but I'm not a 100% sure.
Thank you for any info.

General Discussion / Headers for a 68Z with power steering
« on: August 02, 2020, 05:49:39 PM »
I know this has been asked here before,  but I keep seeing names and not finding any information on them so I thought i would re ask, and see if there is any new information out there.   I asked on Facebook and people try to tell me the Z28 did not have power steering.   So here I am.

I am looking for a set of repop headers for the 68Z. I would like a set to be like the factory original (without the original price.. lol)   but who is still making the repop headers? Will they work with factory power steering?
