Restoration / Re: Will this wheel and tire combo work?
« on: March 21, 2023, 02:05:51 PM »
I know this post is a year old but just in case it might help the OP or anybody else I figured I would post this.

I have 1968 Corvette AG code 15x7 rally wheels on the front of my 68 Camaro right now. These wheels have the same 3-3/4" back spacing as the OP was asking about and they are currently fit with the same 215/65R15's the OP was later looking into as well. They work fine on the front and do not rub on the inner fender mount bolts at full lock. The typical FW code 15 x 7 rally wheels that have 4-1/4" of back spacing will provide even more room but I don't know if they will cause the tires to hit something else inboard like the sway bar, inner fender well or subframe which I have had other wheels do in the past.

When I first got my car it had 235/60-15's on 7" rims and they rubbed on the inner fender mount bolts. I don't know what the back spacing was on them, it was 37 years ago and I gave those wheels away in favor of some Halibrand skinny front drag wheels. They may fit if the back spacing pulled them in further.

I took the lower heater housing secondary duct (part # 3895932) off my 1968 Camaro 30+ years ago when I ran it as heater delete while drag racing. It is the one that redirects air around the center console. I found what looks like a similar but smaller version of it in the 1968 and 1969 AIM that I assume was the non-console version of the duct. Both AIM diagrams call for the same fasteners # 9427326 but I can't find any info on what they are. AMK shows nothing for them when I run the number.

It looks to be about the size of a #10 screw but I don't know if it uses a floating washer type or a hex washer head type. I don't want to damage this part or have it come loose using the wrong fasteners on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Originality / Re: Correct Oil fitting L35

My 01C LOS 396 car has the upper one-piece 45-degree fitting.

It makes sense that they would use as few pieces as possible to eliminate parts, the labor to assemble them and possible oil leak locations.

Research Topics & Reports / Re: 1968 Ash Trays (again!)

Just to be clear, we're looking for data from blue, red, and gold interiors without woodgrain ashtrays. Data from black dash/interior cars is not relevant.
Thanks folks
Ed

1968, LOS, 12D, 724 RED INT, NCRS SHIPPER PROD DATE 12/26/1967

My car is close to this one as well. 1968, LOS, 01C build date, 722 Gold interior. Wood grained instrument panel but smooth black ash tray. Gold interior. The pictures I had of it from early in 1987 before I changed it to a black interior got lost long ago so no images of that combo to share. Do you blame me for wanting to ditch a "custom" brown diamond tuck and shag carpet interior in a hurry?

Fantastic car. If only my 68 SS had survived unmolested as well as yours. Mine was horribly "customized" in the 70's & early 80's before I got it to the point that not much original was left intact. I did the best I could as a 19-year old kid in 1987 trying to reverse the carnage and fix the L.A. street miles damage.

Did the grill get replaced in your car early on or was the SS emblem always upside down? It looks that way in the early pics as best as I can tell with the low resolution. It certainly is upside down in the newer pics you have posted.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 5460346 Master Cylinder

I just noticed my cap has both of the sets of Delco brake fluid stampings on it that are in the original 67 cap design so I might as well add a pic of them too.

A little hard to read on such a small pic but they are still readable in addition to the WT stamp. The cap had been repainted black before I bought the car back in 1987.

I know this thread is ancient but I just pulled my WT code 346 master cylinder out of storage after 36 years. After reading this I thought I would add a 346 casting known real WT code LOS built 1968 Camaro SS build date of 01C stamping to the records. As you can see the font is rather tall and the letters very close together.
