It looks like vintage air is a good option then, if I decide to go ahead with the installation. Believe me it is hard for me to change the originality of a car, but at same time this one needs several repairs that it will never be 100% original and on the other hand, i want a car I can drive whenever I want and high humidity in Lima makes very uncomfortable to drive cars w/o a/c  in summer besides the fact that it’s not advisable to drive with windows open through a 10 million people polluted city also having security as a big concern.... so at the end i have to choose between having parked all the time an original camaro or having one with a small reversible modification which i can drive whenever I wish...

It’s a nice 1967 SS/RS but certainly not a DZ 302 Z/28.... which would be another history indeed

Mild Modifications / A/C system installation

Hi,
I started checking the parts I will need to buy to restore my 1967 camaro SS/RS.
Something I have been wondering and still haven’t decided is what to do with the a/c or better said with the “no a/c”.
Basically I am happy with the camaro as it came from factory and want to restore it as close as possible to its original set up.
But the almost only thing I would consider is to install a a/c system as otherwise I will tend to use less the car, specially in warm summer days.
Would it be too complicated to find a camaro a/c system to install it in my car without major complications and easy to take it back to its original set up if I (or my son...) change my mind later on?
Guess most complicated thing to reverse would be the lateral holes to make in the dashboard?
All your ideas, tips and critics will be welcome

For sure I will use as much original parts as possible. Many are still in the car and will be able to restore them too.

Thanks everyone for their replies.
As it is a 1967 SS/RS I would like to restore it as close as possible to how it left the factory.
Don’t have a defined budget but will certainly spend what is needed if manage to find original spare parts.
I was hoping there were some providers specialized on camaro stock parts so I could do some big orders from abroad instead of arranging several small orders...
But it looks like I will depend on eBay...
Some used parts can be found in Peru but hardly in good shape
Most of mechanical parts are still in the car. Most of missing items are decorative ones like emblems, chromes, central dashboard, blinking lights, headlight bezels, etc but I know that the list will only increase...
Will keep you updated of the process

I am searching spare parts for starting the restoring process of my 1967 SS/RS.
I have seen several webpages but some of them apparently don’t offer good quality.
Could you please let me know what is the best and mist reliable online shop to source the spare parts I am missing?

Compression is 160 in all cylinders, so guess better not touch it. What do you think?

I was considering to install a more modern GM engine and 6 speed manual transmission. But seeing it keeps its original engine, believe I am obliged to keep it original...

General Discussion / Before starting restoring process - Camaro 1967 SS/RS

Hi everyone
I an evaluating what restoring path to take and searching the main webpages to source spare parts (it will be my first camaro). Could you please let me know the most reliable spare parts webpages in order to get good quality parts (or even original if available).
Also, my 1967 camaro ss/rs didn’t have a factory a/c system (nor even heating) as was sold in Peru.
In order to make it easier to drive I am considering to install an a/c system. Is there a system that make me feel sure about keeping the original look (of a camaro with stock a/c of course).
Last but no least, although planning to keep the original engine and muncie 4 speed gearbox, in case Engibe is not in good condition, would you recommend to overhaul it? Or instsll a more modern engine+gear box (and which ones) regardless of the cost?

The issue is that the Number is in the papers
In the engine only the casting number is legible
And i am not an expert in GM engines so don’t know how to identify if it is the original engine or at least if it is a 350 or 327...

Yes, realized the engine number should be with a S i/o a 5, apparently it is a mistake in the Peruvian documents as there is where the mistake is.
In the engine I couldn’t find other number rather than the casting number (which applies to 327 and 350 and even Z28’s 302.
I am traveling so don’t have access to the car now but will try to get more pictures.

Hi everyone
I am new in the forum and just bought a 1967 camaro in Peru which as per the codes is a camaro ss/rs.
It is lacking most of emblems and clearly it has been dissembled and assembled back.
The engine number in the papers is V0516M57N224653 which Rich Fields helped me understand it’s a a 350 ci manual transmission for Super Sport, built in Flint MI on May 16
I still have the doubt if the engine is the original or if it was changed. How can I know that?
The casting number is 3892657 which understand could be either a 327 or 350, so still not sure if the engine is 327 or 350.
Attaching some pictures. Any help will be very much appreciated
