Restoration / Re: November 66 built Van Nuys SS nose stripe

Thank you Kurt. Those pictures look the same as the 10B LOS car, so that is what I will go with. Appreciate everyone's help. I would have been upset if it got painted incorrectly.

Thank you GMAD and Pete. The Bring A Trailer car was mine for sale and was original paint mostly and it was a Van Nuys car but it was a January 67 built car and I have a strong feeling part of the stripe was at some point altered over time. Pete that red car is exactly what I'm looking for. Looks very original paint and stripe looks correct. I'm wondering if the stripe goes all the way to the bottom of the fender per the AIM? I'd love to see more of this car.
Although I'm located where nobody will know the difference, it matters to me to have it as correct as I can.

Byron, I'm in the process of painting my car. All front end sheet metal was NOS but in primer so I'm looking to replicate from an original car. I'm using the Stencils and Stripes kit and from looking at many many cars feel confident on the location and dimensions above the emblems, but unsure how far the stripe extends below the emblems on an early Van Nuys car. My fear is painting the stripe incorrectly, as so many repainted cars have been done in the past.

I did hear from someone privately who said a Jim Walston owned an early original paint Van Nuys car. But my efforts to reach him have been unsuccessful. Surely this amazing site must have at least a few pictures of the stripe on an early built LA car?

I'm looking for pictures of original cars with the SS bumblebee nose stripe from an early built Van Nuys Camaro. My concern is the portion located below the SS emblems and how far the stripe extends? I realize the AIM shows the stripe going quite far maybe to the lower valance panel. It seems the stripe may have changed over time with production or between the two assembly plants.

General Discussion / Re: 1966 Van Nuys Plant shutdown?
« on: October 24, 2024, 05:41:08 PM »
No floor is perfect condition original. I think they didn't have one side bracket, moved it along the line, then screwed a bracket in when it arrived. I also agree GM didn't want cars hanging around. I sent pictures of the tag to Byron, but the tag is so difficult to read now. Thinking about it now, maybe the seat had the wrong tag. Maybe it was tagged wrong. I'll never know. Thanks for your help.

Thank you. Wondering why there were way more build 11A, 11B, 11E compared to 11C and 11D?
I'm asking because my 11A car with a fold down seat has the passenger side floor bracket for the fold down seat welded in (as they were) but the driver's side bracket is screwed in. Also there is a factory upholstery tag in the lower seat section with an end of November date on it. Trying to figure out if it sat around the plant for several weeks.

Wondering if anyone knows a reason why no cars were build November third and fourth weeks in 1966? I have an 11A built car that I think may not have shipped until 11E based on upholstery tag for fold down seat.

Originality / Re: 1967 SS350 Smog pump info help needed
« on: October 10, 2024, 11:20:09 PM »
Niblet, to answer your question. It looks like from your pictures you have the correct looking pump. Appears yours has the bent tube coming out the back that was used on the 350 engines. The date stamp on the aluminum housing is the only way to have an idea if your pump came with your car.
As the bent tube pump is rare in comparison to the straight tube pump (used say on the 327), it is unlikely that someone changed out your pump.
However the rear plates on these pumps can be interchanged.
Meaning if you find a straight tube pump with the correct date and you NEED a rear plate with the bent tube, you can disassemble the pump and convert it to a bent tube pump.

Can't Repeat, to answer your question. The info on the site about date codes might list a separate code for Corvette. My understanding is Corvettes even if the date was the same had a different alphabetical letter code on the pump.

I have an 11A built LA car. It has the 12 bolt differential but no bracket mounted to the axle for the traction bar. I don't think they started adding the bracket to the axle until mid December of 66. Car is a factory 350 without radius rod.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Clutch Fan Identification

My understanding is cars with the C60 air conditioning received the clutch fan. I have seen a date stamp on the clutch portion where yours has numbers stamped. My 11A LOS car with AC also has the clutch fan. Wish I could tell you more information.

I have a 67 RS/SS convertible with mostly original paint and the car seems to not have the side pinstripe. Did ALL RS/SS cars get the side pinstripe as well as the accent band at the front?
