semi gloss is about 70-80% gloss. satin might be 30% gloss, and of course flat black is 0% gloss.

Tail panel is much higher gloss than 30%, infact i beleive it is just tuxedo black which would be gloss.  Fisher painted the tail panel and rocker panel paint on their side of the plant.  How many shades of black would they have had in their in line paint booth?  The inline repair booth (at Norwood) was where all the big block tail panels, rockers and striping work was done.  Do you think they were painting black stripes (gloss) on cars and then switching the paint over to paint the rocker and rear panels a semi gloss black?

Theres only one mask.  The treatment at the back end of the car was the only difference, on spoiler equipped cars (indicated by the holes in the trunklid) they just taped off the last 3" or therabouts of the trunklid.  All masks were positioned off the rear window, vinyl top molding, or convertible top trim and were always the same, 5/8" off the bottom of each or these reference points.

I really don't see how the factory could have mispositioned your stripes, they were doing at least 50 Z28's a day so it's not like it was something they weren't familiar with, and the paint and trim inspectors would have caught it and had it repaired.

Here you go.  Remeber, the wiper motor is always hot, and it grounds through the switch to the dash.

It took about 3 days for the car to go from a pile of sheetmetal parts to a rolling chassis ready to accept the engine and transmission.  The 11D week probably ran from Monday 11/25 to Friday 11/29.  So the body could have been started anytime during that week.  Your VIN is after the last reported VIN built in November (L510583) so your car was finished late in the day Monday 12/2/68 and the engine was probably installed late in the day Friday 12/29/68.  It took roughly 2 days to ship an engine by rail from Flint to LA so an 11/25 built engine is definately possible for your car.

If you have brazing material in the original holes, then the trunklid or at least the paint on it is not original,  The factory did not braze the original emblem holes shut when a spoiler was installed they just put a peice of tape over each hole and bolted the spoiler over it, and I doubt that a dealer would do that either, since it would require the lid to be repainted.

The last Norwood April VIN recorded by GM is 637106 (this was the last car out the door on the 2nd shift on 4/30/69), and at that point there was at least another 2 days of 04 dated cars in the que (April 30th was a Wednesday).  My car is 6369xx and its an 04L dated car.  636136 is fine for a late 04C built car.

This orange/orange/black convertible is not original, nor was it originally a Big block.  The a/c evaporator housing is from a small block.  Houndstooth wasn't available in convertibles except for the pacecars, I beleive both the orange and yellow houndstooth was announced as being available in Feb or 69 for coupes only.

Nope, 04L.  Nearest I can figure it rolled off the assembly line around 10:30 pm on April 30th 1969 as its about 70 VIN numbers prior to the last reported April built car from Norwood.  Was probably started very early in the day on Monday 4/28.

Cowl tag was attached first day of assembly, when the body wasn't much more than a firewall, so the earliest the car could have been started is 4/21.  It took about 3 days to finish the car, so the earliest it would have rolled out of the GM side of the plant is probably late in the day on 4/24.

April started on Tuesday in 69, that week would have been part of 03E. The 04C is the week of April 21 to April 25.  I guess it would depend on when your car was built in 04C, but like Kurt says4-21 wheels are probably to late.

My 04L car has 4 wheels dated 3/2/69 (might be 3/12 or 3/22 as there is only a single 2 right at the edge of the valve stem, and I can't see another digit) on it.

There are no colors specific to the Z28.  They were available in the same colors any other Camaro was available with.  As afar a special order paint, you could order any current (for the year) GM paint color as a special order.  Stripes would always be either black or white depending on the body's base color.  Again you could probably get a special order stripe color if you knew how to order it.

Ad says he's been hired to certify it as of 5/3, not that he's actually seen it.

Lot of money (75K) for a car painted the wrong color, rear stripes painted like a 68, non original ZL2 hood, and non spoiler car originally (no hole in front crossmember for spoiler support rod).

Its a special order/fleet order code.  Usually applied to an order of multiple cars, or something requiring special approval.  The 0-0 paint code indicates special paint  the code may be for that reason, or maybe the dealer ordered a group of similarly equipped cars, possibly it is a show car of some kind.



05B = Built the Second week of May.

Well what do you know.  The Parts Place is now reproducing the 8 track cover pad.  Not cheap by any means though at $129 for a hunk of foam and a sheet of vinyl.
