General Discussion / Re: Proper Designation SS/RS RS/SS?
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:07:19 PM »
Do you have a rally sport equipped Z28 (RS/Z28) or a Z28 equipped RS (Z28/RS)?

Same with a rally sport equipped SS (RS/SS) or an SS equipped Rally sport (SS/RS)?

But don't forget, just because the car has the reinforcement plate does not mean it is an SS or Z28.  The reinforcement plate was used on 69 coupes only on any car factory equipped with dual exhaust, and any V8 car could be ordered with RPO N10 dual exhaust.  The plate is just a peice of the puzzle.

Not unless you can find all the production records for the 68 model year.

My brother's car must be the weird one in the bunch....disc brakes and rally wheels! :)

I beleive disc brakes required rally wheels in 67.

Only with a stereo AM/FM radio or an 8 track player.  You could get one "auxilliary speaker with RPO U80 on a mono radio.

Yes it was available that way, if you didn't order the optional console. Column shift was standard on both automatic and 3 speed manual transmissions, floor shifters were optional.

General Discussion / Re: Chevrolet Assembly Line sequence Numbers
« on: February 25, 2009, 10:15:05 PM »
In 69 there was one strike at the Los Angeles assembly plant that basically ended 69 production there.  It started April 19th and ended in Mid June.  They only reopened the plant to clear the cars that were actually on the line at the begining of the strike, which was about 1200 Camaros, plus probably the same amount of Chevrolets, and Impalas.  There were various stikes in other GM associated plants thru out the years.  Muncie was on strike for a while, but I don't think there were any strikes at Norwood or LA (besides the one above) from 66 to 70.

Someone forgot to change the code on the computer cards that equated to the build week for the June codes.  You don't really think someone typed each of those in by hand do you?

No strike in 69.  69 production went long because of body fitment problems with the new 70 body style.  Last 69 from Norwood is dated 11A and has a VIN of 711922.  Last known car is 22 before the end of production.

Last Norwood 67 is 254698, last LA built 67 is 165008.

Spring codes are really tough to tie down, we started looking at them about a year ago and it quickly became clear that you can'tuse the GM service part books because GM consolidated multiple springs into common part numbers.  What starts out as a couple of dozen front and rear spring part numbers quickly get consolidated down into maybe 4 or five front and rear part numbers over the period of a couple of years.

1st generation Camaros never came with mirrors on both doors from the factory, so if you have dual mirrors one was added either by the dealer or a previous owner.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69' trunk lid
« on: February 11, 2009, 03:59:55 AM »
I'd say its around a March of 69 trunk lid, its got the 6 weld tabs across the back edge holding the inner panel to the outer, and it also has the 4 large inner panels holes for the Pontiac T/A spoiler.  There should be a small stamp in between those two center stiffeners on the inner panel like TA10 which is the sheetmetal run stamp the last 2 digits are the week the sheetmetal was stamped at the assembly plant.

Trim tags fine, the W/O number fits right in between a couple of others I have as does the VIN.

The transition is a straight line thru the centers of the holes that hold the rocker spear trim onto the rocker.  Black paint extends from wheelwell to wheelwell below those holes
